Quincy Leonard, an Alabama A&M University graduate, a distinguished member of his community, and Founder of LEO Golf Academy at Gateway Golf Course Montgomery, AL, was recognized and inducted into the 19th Annual African American Golfers Hall of Fame during its annual event being held in Palm Beach County, FL, May 25-29, 2023.
“Being inducted into the African American Golfers Hall of Fame makes me feel extremely grateful, honored, and humbled.,” said Leonard following the event. “I have to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and my parents for the success I have gained in my career. Also, my wife Tish has always encouraged me to pursue my passion. But ultimately, I must give credit to my Uncle Jimmy for introducing the game to me and planting this golf seed within me.”
“I began as just a young kid from a rural town in Alabama who just wanted to develop my own golf game. I happened to stumble upon a passion that God placed in me. The Bible says one plants, another waters, but God gives the increase. This seed that was planted in me has produced fruit that I never could have imagined,” said Quincy.
The multi-day program is packed full of activities and includes a leadership conference, golf skills camp and tournament, reception, awards dinner celebration, auction and the 13th Annual African American Collegiate & Youth Golfers Hall of Fame, all hosted by Inner City Youth Golfers Inc.
Leonard has a swath of achievements and has been recognized twice by U.S. Kids Golf, earning an honorable mention in their annual Top 50 Kids Teacher Award. Among more than 500 applicants, Leonard is one of the select few who have received this accolade, which recognizes the world’s most outstanding youth golf instructors.
The program’s mission is to celebrate and honor the history and achievements of African Americans and other significant supporters who have contributed to growing the game of golf since the early 1800’s. Learn more at http://africanamericangolfershalloffame.com
