Montgomery, AL: The LEO Golf Academy and the Black College Golf Coaches Association (BCGCA), in collaboration with the City of Montgomery and the Montgomery Department of Parks and Recreation, proudly announce the upcoming Legacy Golf Championship. This premier golf tournament, set to take place from June 14th to 19th, 2024, at the esteemed Lagoon Park Golf Course, promises to be a transformative event that marries sport with the pursuit of legacy and empowerment.
The Legacy Golf Championship is a unique spectacle that brings together a diverse assembly of junior and collegiate golfers from across the nation. The event will be divided into male and female divisions, each boasting top-tier athletes. National and international players will be showcasing their exceptional skills and fervor for the game. The tournament’s layout spans five days and consists of a captivating journey from qualifying rounds to a thrilling 54-hole stroke play golf championship.
Nestled within the enchanting confines of the Lagoon Park Golf Course, a Golf Digest-acclaimed Top 100 course in Alabama, players will navigate tree-lined fairways while basking in the tranquil ambiance. However, the Legacy Golf Championship transcends mere competition. It serves as a platform for junior golfers to unveil their talents and forge connections with college coaches present at the event. Collegiate players, on the other hand, can earn valuable World Amateur Golf Rankings. The winner of the Junior Boy and Girl of The Legacy Golf Championship (or highest non-Underrated Tour Member: boy and girl) will gain entry into the Steph Curry Underrated Tour local qualifier in South Bend, Indiana at University of Notre Dame on July 22nd.
One of the hallmarks of the Legacy Golf Championship is the integration of enriching activities into the daily schedule. These activities offer players and their families the opportunity to delve into Montgomery’s rich history, particularly its role as the “Birthplace of the Civil Rights Movement.” Beyond golf, this event encapsulates education, unity, and legacy-building.
“The Legacy event is going to be great for players, parents and the community,” expressed Quincy Leonard, founder of LEO Golf Academy. “We are also excited to partner with the Steph Curry Underrated Tour for the inaugural event.” “We want to share what’s been given to us and give back to our community.” said Leonard Smoot, Head Coach of the Miles College Golf team and the president of the Black College Golf Coaches Association.
