Wrap-Up of the Inaugural 2024 Legacy Golf Championship at Lagoon Park Golf Course: LEAVE YOUR LEGACY

Montgomery, Alabama: The Inaugural Legacy Golf Championship concluded with resounding success at Lagoon Park Golf Course, June 14-19, thanks to the participation and support of all involved. The 54-hole stroke play golf tournament featured a diverse group of junior and collegiate golfers from across the country.

The male and female winners of The Championship will gain entry to into the 3rd regional qualifying event on Stephen Curry’s highly coveted 2024 UNDERRATED Golf Tour, hosted at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.

Mayor Steven Reed at the Legacy Golf Welcome Reception to welcome the players to Montgomery. He also announced a $2.6 million investment into local golf.

Central Alabama Sports Commission Board member Quincy Leonard wanted to do something significant and original for the area and created The Legacy Golf Championship. “Special appreciation goes to Shawn Freese, General Manager, Glenn McWhirter, Superintendent, and the entire staff at Lagoon Park Golf Course for their exceptional hospitality and support during this memorable event.” said PGA Certified Coach Leonard.

“We eagerly anticipate welcoming everyone back next year! We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated LGC event staff, partners, and all our sponsors. Your efforts and support were instrumental in creating a special experience for all our participants,” said Coach Leonard.

Coach Leonard is an African American Golfers Hall of Fame inductee and told WAKA Action News he was inspired by the city of Montgomery when he chose legacy for the tournament name. “Since Montgomery is rich in legacy, rich in heritage, rich different things, history, how about creating a legacy tournament that the young people can come experience Montgomery?” Quincy Leonard said.
