Tiger Woods and Justin Timberlake have received approval for a new project in St. Andrews. The Fife Council has granted planning permission to convert the town’s movie theater into a sports bar called T-Squared Social. Fife as a Council is the third largest local authority in Scotland and the 11th largest in the UK and its vision is to make Fife a truly great place to live and work. This T-Squared Social venture follows their previous opening of a similar venue in midtown Manhattan last September. However, the Scotland project faced more resistance, with a petition against it gathering over 10,000 signatures last October.
The real estate application was submitted by Nexus Luxury Collection, in which both Woods and Timberlake are shareholders. The New Picture House, a staple in St. Andrews since 1930, has been operating at “under 10 percent occupancy,” according to documents. The proposed plan, supported by the cinema’s current owners, will preserve at least one of the movie screens and is expected to create 40-45 jobs.
Similar to the NYC location, this new T-Squared Social will feature luxury amenities such as golf simulators, duckpin bowling, and darts. While no specific timeline for development has been provided, work must commence within three years as per the agreement.
The new sports bar will be situated approximately half a mile from the Old Course, where Woods won the 2000 and 2005 Open Championships. Timberlake also has a connection to the historic course, having played there multiple times, including in the 2019 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
