Steve and Sarah Forrest, a dynamic couple residing in the Cotswolds, England, have been married for 37 years after meeting at an office Christmas party. Their journey together spans continents, adventures, and a shared passion for golf. Steve, 63, discovered golf as a boy, first caddying and later playing with his father. His love for the sport grew stronger over the years. Sarah, 59, was first introduced to golf when the couple lived in Papua New Guinea, but she didn’t take it up seriously until much later.
Both avid golfers, with handicaps of 9 and 12 respectively, they decided to embark on a unique adventure that combined their love for travel and golf. In August 2023, they launched the Africa 100 Challenge, where they set out to play 100 golf courses across 11 African countries. Their journey in a trusty old Land Rover Defender, affectionately called “Andi the Landy,” has allowed them to explore Africa’s diverse landscapes and hidden golf gems, all while navigating the continent on their own.
The Africa 100 Challenge is about more than just playing golf; it’s about uncovering courses that are relatively unknown but extraordinary. Along the way, they’ve encountered memorable experiences, from being surrounded by wild animals to white water rafting on the Zambezi River. They’ve also camped in stunning, unspoiled places, stayed in luxurious lodges with wildlife just outside their windows, and connected with locals across different countries.
A standout aspect of their journey has been the people they’ve met—happy, kind individuals who are fascinated by the couple’s adventure. For Steve and Sarah, these interactions have been some of the most rewarding moments of their journey.
Looking ahead, they plan to continue traveling, with goals of inspiring golfers over 40 to seek adventures off the beaten path. Destinations like Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Europe are on their horizon, where they will continue to share the lesser-known wonders of golf and the surrounding beauty.
Their connection with the AFRIYEA Golf Academy, a charity they visited in Uganda, has also been an important part of their journey. Having met the Academy’s founder, Isaiah, Steve and Sarah have helped promote the academy through videos, blog posts, and coaching local children. Their involvement has helped raise awareness of the charity’s impactful work.
Steve and Sarah’s brand, Travel Lifestyle Golf, appeals to both golfers and non-golfers who love to explore. Their adventures show that golf can be the thread that connects a journey, while the exploration of new cultures and landscapes enhances the overall experience. They hope to continue working with like-minded brands and inspire others to look beyond the obvious when planning their own travels.
