Bartow Golf Club Honors 105-Year-Old Golf Legend Mr. Herb Dixon

On Saturday, September 14th, 105-year-old Mr. Herb Dixon was honored at Bartow Golf Club in Bartow, FL. As the Guest of Honor, Mr. Dixon donned a golden shirt (commemorating his induction into the African American Golfers Hall Of Fame) along with a golden satin sash that said, “It’s My Birthday!”

He humbly addressed the crowd with a wide smile and heartfelt gratitude. At age 105, the centenarian spoke with eloquence and clarity that left a lasting impression upon the dozens of guests, many who attend annually for his birthday celebration.

Over the course of his remarkable golfing career, Mr. Dixon has won over 200 trophies, achieved 8 hole-in-ones, and holds a career-low score of 63. Remarkably, he continued playing golf actively until 2022. Once a caddie at Bartow Golf Club, Mr. Dixon has become a living legend and is a true African American treasure.

Bartow Mayor Trish Burton-Pfeiffer, wearing a purple blouse, along with City Council Members, recognized Mr. Dixon’s incredible milestone during the celebration. Mayor Pfeiffer read a proclamation in his honor at the tournament held at Bartow Golf Club, highlighting his extraordinary achievements and impact.

Tournament organizer Lawrence Hunt ensured the event was superbly hosted. Golfers in attendance were gifted complimentary copies of the African American Golfer’s Digest to commemorate the occasion.

Mr. Dixon is a national treasure. In my 65 years of playing golf, I have never encountered another golfer—of any race—who is 105 years old and still involved in this beautiful game. Kudos to you, my brother.
