A man in Davenport, Iowa has been arrested after allegedly launching a brutal assault on his 71-year-old grandfather. According to police, 38-year-old Joshua Ragan began attacking his grandfather on July 28 for reasons that remain undisclosed., according to news reports. The victim told authorities that Ragan started by punching and pushing him, which caused him to fall. While the elderly man was on the ground, Ragan allegedly struck him repeatedly with golf clubs, targeting his head and body.
The situation escalated further when Ragan reportedly sprayed wasp spray into the man’s open wounds and told him he planned to electrocute and kill him. The grandfather was held in the basement for approximately three hours and was unable to call for help because Ragan had disabled his phone, authorities said. Police arrived to find the victim seriously injured and still confined to the basement.
The man sustained significant injuries including facial trauma, a likely tips, rib injuries, and head wounds that required stitches. Ragan was taken into custody at the scene and later admitted to the assault, according to court documents. He now faces multiple serious charges including willful injury causing serious injury, false imprisonment, assault, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The attack shocked the community and remains under investigation. Police have not released a motive for the violence. Davenport, where the incident occurred, is located about 85 miles southeast of Cedar Rapids.
