The Original Tee Golf Classic teed off last weekend with style, substance, and a powerful show of community, marking another unforgettable chapter in one of the most culturally significant events in golf.
The tournament founded by Wendell Haskins, was once again elevated by a partnership with Starter, whose support underscored the brand’s deep commitment to celebrating heritage, excellence, and cultural legacy. As a brand long woven into the fabric of Black sports and culture, Starter’s partnership with the Original Tee Golf Classic was a statement. Additional sponsors included the Lost Tribe Studios, NBA, which teamed up with Starter for an unforgettable activation at the 1st hole, complete with the official NBA trophy on display and a pop-up hoop that brought the energy of the court to the course as well as the LPGA, USGA, Delta Air Lines, Yeti, Tito’s Vodka and more.

The event which was held on Sunday, July 27th at Crystal Springs Resort in NJ, about an hour from NYC drew a standout lineup of athletes, creatives, and changemakers, including Original Tee Honoree LaRee Pearl Sugg, the third Black woman to earn an LPGA Tour card, alongside New York Knicks legend John Starks, actor Malik Yoba, journalist Roland Martin, golf influencer Teal Barber, content creator Tristan Jass, former NBA player Aaron McKie, former LPGA player Sadena Parks, analyst Jaime Diaz, artist Mike Field, and Christian Brunone, VP of Marketing at Dunning.
Additionally, the event featured a competition between two Howard University golfers Kendall Jackson and Laniah Moffett in the Battle of the Bison that went down to the 18th hole where Laniah won the match, 2 up.

Those unable to attend sent their love and respect in a powerful tribute video honoring LaRee, featuring heartfelt messages from Alonzo Mourning, Allen Iverson, Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Anthony Anderson, Johnny Newman, Shasta Averyhardt, and Beverly Johnson, further reinforcing the impact and legacy celebrated that day.
From fairways to friendships, the 2025 Original Tee Golf Classic once again proved it’s more than a tournament, it’s a cultural moment.
