Junior Golfers Take Center Stage at Black Heritage Tour Golf Challenge, September 7

by AAGD Staff

The Black Heritage Tour Golf Challenge is set to tee off on Sunday, September 7 at National Golf Club, located at 300 St. Andrews Drive in Fort Washington, Maryland. The event continues the tour’s mission of creating meaningful opportunities for junior golfers while honoring the legacy of African American contributions to the game.

Competition will take place across three age divisions for both boys and girls: 15–18, 13–14, and 10–12. Tournament Manager Sandy Milligan explained, “We have 3 divisions—Boys and Girls (15–18, 13–14, and 10–12). We’re playing stroke play starting at 1 o’clock.” The Black Heritage Junior Golf Tour culminates with its Championship Challenge where 65 top junior golfers have been invited to compete. The Tour is the only minority junior golf tour in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV).

More than just a competition, the Black Heritage Tour Golf Challenge emphasizes skill development, mentorship, and cultural appreciation. Junior players will not only test their abilities on a championship course but also experience the camaraderie of peers who share their love for the game. The event highlights the importance of representation and access, fostering an environment where youth can grow as athletes and leaders.

Donations are also being accepted at GoFundMe to help support the vision of Black Heritage Tour (BHT) Golf Challenge, Inc. which is to establish a Junior Golf Tour with competitions, clinics; and camps; while acknowledging our African American history; and the promotion of tours for African American historical sites throughout the Mid-Atlantic area for underserved boys and girls.

With its blend of competitive spirit, cultural recognition, and community engagement, the Black Heritage Tour Golf Challenge offers young golfers a platform to shine while carrying forward a rich legacy in the sport.  For more information, or to register, or sponsor, visit https://www.bhtgolfchallenge.org or call Sandy Milligan at 301-442-0599.
