Some golf days are memorable — and then there are days like the one Anton Lawrence just had, which will likely never be topped.
Lawrence, a lifelong golfer with 40 years on the course, had never once sunk a hole-in-one. That all changed during a charity tournament at Cobbossee Colony Golf Course near Augusta, Maine. Playing alongside his youngest son, his visiting brother from Louisiana, and his close friend Mark, Lawrence stepped up to the tee on Hole No. 8. His swing felt smooth and confident, and the ball soared through the crisp September air, bounced perfectly toward the flagstick, and dropped straight into the cup. After decades of trying, Lawrence finally had his first ace.
But the magic wasn’t done. Because of the tournament’s shotgun format, his next stop was Hole No. 2. Once again, everything clicked — the swing, the contact, the flight. The ball flew true, struck the pin, and disappeared into the hole. Incredibly, Lawrence had done it again — two holes-in-one in a single round after a lifetime without one.
“It was just great,” Lawrence told WGME-TV. “It was a fun feeling.”
The remarkable streak of good fortune didn’t stop there. Encouraged by friends who insisted he test his luck further, Lawrence bought two scratch-off lottery tickets after the round — and won $500. While he didn’t hit the Powerball jackpot, the win was the perfect exclamation point to an already extraordinary day.
And to top it all off, his team won the charity tournament.
Two holes-in-one, a lottery prize, a tournament victory — all in one day. After four decades chasing that elusive ace, Lawrence packed a lifetime’s worth of golfing joy into a single round. It was, without question, a once-in-a-lifetime day — and one that will be nearly impossible to beat.
