Inside South Africa’s Invitation-Only Golf Secret, Millvale Golf Estate

by AAGD Staff

Millvale Golf Estate in South Africa has emerged as perhaps the country’s most exclusive golf experience, defined by its invitation-only access and remarkable seclusion. Tucked away near Koster in the North West province, Millvale is not advertised publicly and has no official website or membership forms, making it virtually invisible to the average golfer. Only those fortunate enough to receive a private invitation from its owners are able to access this rare course.

The estate itself spans some 5,000 hectares of game farm and features an 18-hole layout originally conceived as a custom nine-hole design before being expanded. The course was crafted by legendary golfer and course designer Gary Player, whose approach blends the natural beauty of the African bushveld with technical challenge. One of the most unique aspects of Millvale is its floating tee, a novel feature that adds both intrigue and difficulty to the experience.

Ownership of Millvale further contributes to its mystique. Investec holds a majority stake in the property, while South African billionaire Nathan “Natie” Kirsh owns the remainder. The estate’s history is intertwined with its origins as Morningside Farm Golf Club and the intriguing legacy of its earlier owner, British arms dealer Richard Charter, whose untimely death added to the enigmatic narrative surrounding the property.

Beyond golf, Millvale offers a lifestyle of discreet luxury and privacy. The estate includes 3,000 square metres of high-end accommodation, private landing strips, mountain biking trails, padel courts, and a well-stocked wine cellar, ensuring invited guests enjoy more than just a round of golf. A dedicated staff of over 100 people maintains impeccable grounds and guest services, elevating the experience from a sporting outing to an exclusive retreat.

What sets Millvale apart from other private clubs is its refusal to engage in traditional revenue streams. Unlike typical golf estates that sell membership, host tournaments, or offer public tee times, Millvale exists solely for the enjoyment of its owners and their selected guests. This deliberate mystique and restricted access place it among the most inaccessible golfing experiences in the world and fuel its reputation as a legendary destination for those who value privacy and prestige above all.
