Carter Bonas, the teenaged CEO of Spectrum Golf, cartersspectrumgolf.com donating a golf simulator to Florida Memorial University, in Miami Gardens, FL, thanks to a grant by the National Recreation Park Association. The Ribbon Cutting Reveal will take place at the university’s Wellness Center, Wednesday, April 29th at 5:30pm.
Carter who is on the Autism Spectrum, became Sports Illustrated’s SportsKid of the Year after launching his own line of golf apparel. Since then, he created a nonprofit, called Carters Spectrum Golf to teach kids and veterans to play the game and offers golf equipment for free. Dozens of kids are in the program. Through it, he discovered ALL FOSTER KIDS in Florida have a waiver to attend college for FREE, but many don’t because they feel inadequate or undeserving. Carter is hoping to change that with the game of golf!
By having a golf simulator right on a college campus, Carter can train the students, and the university can introduce them to the possibilities of attending college. A win, win. FMU president, William McCormick will also share how students at the University will have access to the simulator and more.
This is not the first time Carter and FMU have shared an extraordinary experience. When Carter was about 11-years-old, he was asked to play in a golf tournament in Naples, Florida, by William McCormick, who is now the President of Florida Memorial University. At the end of the tournament, Carter was awarded a 4-year scholarship to attend FMU, to play in a golf program they expected would be in place by the time he’s ready to go to college! Ironically, Carter, who is now 15, with his nonprofit Carter’s Spectrum Golf is taking that first step toward a golf program, with this golf simulator!
