OPUS Launches 2026 Youth Golf Mentor Program in Waterbury, Connecticut

by AAGD Staff

Opus has announced the launch of its 2026 Youth Golf Mentor Program in Waterbury, Connecticut, continuing its mission of expanding access, building meaningful connections, and shaping future leaders.

Under the theme “Building Access. Creating Networks. Changing Futures,” the OPUS Youth Golf Mentor Program uses golf as a platform to connect young people—particularly those from underserved communities—with mentorship, leadership development, professional exposure, and long-term economic opportunity.

Unlike traditional youth sports programs, OPUS emphasizes social and professional development beyond the game itself. Participants are paired with mentors from business and professional backgrounds, gaining insight into career pathways, workplace expectations, and personal development strategies. The program also introduces youth to new environments designed to broaden perspective and strengthen confidence in navigating professional spaces.

At the core of the initiative is a structured growth model that guides participants through a step-by-step development journey: Discover → Learn → Experience → Mentorship → Leadership → Community Impact.

Through this progression, participants gain access to golf courses and private club environments, business networking settings, executive and entrepreneurial communities, and cultural education that includes the history and representation of African Americans in golf.

The program’s impact extends beyond individual participants. Organizers emphasize benefits for families through engagement and support systems, for businesses through the development of future workforce pipelines, and for communities through stronger relationships, representation, and opportunity pathways.

“Opportunity often begins with access,” the organization notes. “OPUS creates pathways to relationships, experiences, and networks that can shape a young person’s future.”

More than a golf initiative, OPUS positions itself as a mentorship ecosystem focused on teaching youth how to navigate spaces where opportunity lives—on and off the course.

The Opus Youth Golf Mentor Program 2026 in Waterbury CT is made possible, in part, by a grant from Connecticut Community Foundation. The program will begin in late June, continue for 6 weeks and will include onsite and online sessions. An introduction-to-the-program session will be held at East Mountain Golf course on June 26, 2026 at 12:00 pm. Candidates must complete an application in order to participate.
