Global golf icon brings design vision to one of Europe’s most scenic destinations
Golf legend Tiger Woods is reportedly expanding his design portfolio with a new golf course in Northern Ireland, marking a potential first for his firm in Europe. The project, announced in recent reports, would bring Woods’ design vision to the country’s scenic coastline.
The proposed course is part of a major resort development intended to showcase Northern Ireland’s natural beauty while strengthening its reputation as a premier golf travel destination. Known for its rugged landscapes, rolling dunes, and spectacular ocean views, the region is already home to renowned courses such as Royal County Down, Royal Portrush, and Portstewart.
Woods, who leads TGR Design, has developed a reputation for creating golf layouts that work with their natural surroundings. His portfolio includes courses such as El Cardonal at Diamante in Mexico, Bluejack National in Texas, and Payne’s Valley in Missouri. The Northern Ireland project would add a significant European chapter to that work.
The proposed development at Bellarena is expected to include an 18-hole championship links course, a clubhouse with bar and restaurant facilities, practice areas, a driving range, putting greens, a short course, and eight golf lodges. The project is provisionally known as “Last Man’s Club,” a name connected to the site’s history as a U.S. Army camp during World War II.
The investment could generate new tourism and employment opportunities while encouraging golfers from around the world to visit Northern Ireland. Local hotels, restaurants, transportation providers, and tour operators could also benefit from increased visitor interest.
However, Woods’ reported appointment has not yet been officially confirmed by developer Galgorm Collection, which says it plans to announce the course designer in due course. The development remains subject to the necessary planning and approval processes.
If completed, the project could become a notable addition to Northern Ireland’s celebrated golf landscape, combining championship-level golf, coastal scenery, and local history in a destination designed to attract players and travelers from across the globe.
