All Access Golf launches oral history project: ‘Golf Griot’

by Debert Cook

June 19, 2021 (Brooklyn, NY)

In an effort to keep in line with the mission statement of All Access Golf which is to increase the visibility, relatability, and accessibility for minorities in the sport of golf they have started an oral history project called Golf Griots.

The game of golf is one of the great similes for life and through the wisdom that has been acquired from those who have played before us we learn about the game and life. Golf Griots is for the future generations of golfers who have not picked up a golf club as of yet or new to the game.

Golf Griots episodes will be shown monthly on the the All Access Golf YouTube channel. “Golf Griot is not a podcast, it’s an oral history project chronicling Black Golfers primarily from previous generations,” says Kelley Pierre, owner of All Access Golf.We aspire to know the many golfers who have played and thus increase visibility to the future players of the game through representation and make widely accessible, the oral history interviews of thousands of African Americans.”

The effort of the project aims to acknowledge and preserve the legacy of contributions made in the sport by Blacks while chronicling a historic oral archive of lifetime achievements, as told directly from the memories of the golfers themselves.

The public is urged to submit recommendations of any person they may know of for consideration in participating in a Golf Griot interview by completing the form here
