DULUTH, GEORGIA (August 5, 2021) — The APGA Tour will mark another high point next week when the regular season culminates at TPC Sugarloaf for the APGA Tour Championship with multiple players – including four who have started PGA TOUR events in 2021 – battling for the Lexus Cup Points title and Player of the Year bragging rights in suburban Atlanta.

Kamaiu Johnson, whose 2020 APGA Tour Championship title helped earn him exemptions into the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Honda Classic, is in fifth place in the Lexus Cup Point Standings with 996 after seven events, trailing leader Marcus Byrd (1497), Ryan Alford (1280), Landon Lyons (1077) and Rovonta Young (1005).  Kevin Hall (975) and Willie Mack (947) also have their eyes on the title after teeing off this year with PGA TOUR pros.  Hall also played in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Mack started four tournaments with the best players in the world, making the cut last month in The Rocket Mortgage Classic and The John Deere Classic.

With the APGA Tour Championship worth 1,000 Lexus Cup Points (regular season wins are worth 600) Patrick Newcomb (846), APGA Tour at World Golf Village winner Jarred Garcia (829) and 2020 Lexus Cup winner Tim O’Neal (683) are also in the hunt.

The loaded field will navigate the 7,259-yard, par-72 PGA TOUR-owned course Monday and Tuesday, August 9-10 with practice rounds set for Sunday, August 8. TPC Sugarloaf is one of six TPC courses on the APGA Tour schedule.

Byrd, the former Middle Tennessee State standout, can clinch the Lexus Cup title and pocket the $17,500 bonus pool check with a win after a 2021 season that includes a victory at APGA Tour New Orleans and solid finishes in other key events. Alford stands in second place on the strength of wins at both APGA Tour Scottsdale and APGA Tour Louisville.

In third place is Lyons who has finished top 10 in each Lexus Cup tournaments this season. Young is in fourth place after an early season victory at APGA Tour World Golf Village. Hall, who is in sixth, claimed his first victory since 2018 at APGA Tour Deere Run in July, finishing 8-under-par with a final round 63.

Other highlights from the 2021 season include 2020 Lexus Cup Champion O’Neal winning The John Shippen special event, qualifying him for a spot in The Rocket Mortgage Classic; Mack emerging victorious in the Billy Horschel APGA Tour Invitational special event last week at TPC Sawgrass; and Lyons winning the APGA Tour at Farmers Insurance Open Invitational, the January tandem event at Torrey Pines conducted in conjunction with the PGA Tour and Farmers Insurance.

The APGA Tour Championship will be the last Lexus Cup Point Standings competition of the year for the professional golf tour whose mission is to bring greater diversity to the sport of golf.

The APGA Tour continues September 20-22, heading to the Bluestone Country Club in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, for APGA Tour Valley Forge. The tournament marks the first time the APGA Tour will play in the Northeastern United States.

The APGA Tour Championship will be conducted under social-distancing and health/safety guidelines in conjunction with regional authorities. The 36-hole event offers a $25,000 purse.
