Topgolf, a global sports entertainment leader when it comes to off-course golf experiences, launched its latest original promotional video with a long swing! The promo is set at a Topgolf facility with Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actor and golf aficionado Anthony Anderson, star of ABC’s hit show “Blackish.”  Anderson hopes to reign supreme in his attempt to break the Guinness World Records title for the longest useable golf club.

“Anthony is a competitive guy, so he is really committed to crushing this Guinness World Records title,” said Topgolf Chief Marketing Officer Brian Radics. “Topgolf had a blast working with Anthony, GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS and the rest of the team on this crazy attempt. We like to say that ‘Big Hits Live at Topgolf,’ so I’m expecting that this record will be a big hit with his fans.”

Anderson was onsite in Las Vegas with Topgolf in November at their newly opened facility that sits just behind the MGM Grand.  A Guinness World Records Adjudicator was also on site to witness and verify the attempt. To set the world’s record Anderson need a successful shot to be performed with the club, driving at least 25 meters (82 feet, 1/4 inch).

So what makes this club that Anderson is to use so special?  Well, for one, the longest usable golf club included a custom-made club head by Callaway and shaft by Fujikura.  Secondly, the 37-foot-1-inch club was made of specialized carbon fiber.  But this very long club is not without its challenges.  Anderson must carefully torque (a twisting motion) the club in the correct order and degree to hit the golf ball that is so distant.

On his first and second attempts, Anthony completely misses the ball.  On his forth attempt, the long club breaks and has to be repaired onsite.  It is on his fourth, and final, attempt that the long club reaches its target, rewarding Anthony with the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for hitting a golf ball 106 feet with the longest useable golf club.  Congratulations on your feat Anthony!
