Ramada Abu Dhabi Corniche, Abu Dhabi

abu dhabi

On a wedge-shaped island in the Arab Sea, lies the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The wide end of the wedge forms the city center, with the picturesque corniche and its family-friendly beaches running along the coast. Despite being more conservative than its neighboring city of Dubai, Abu Dhabi can’t seem to resist a bit of excessively flashy extravagance. Characterized by extreme opulence and unfathomable wealth, it inspires a slew of rather ridiculous superlatives. It is home to the world’s furthest leaning building, the largest indoor theme park, the fastest roller-coaster in the world, and even the largest hand-loomed carpet! What was little more than an obscure fishing village 30 years ago, is now miraculously one of the world’s most modern, state-of-the-art cities featuring rows of glitzy skyscrapers, incredibly upmarket shopping malls and world-class luxury hotels many of which offer pristine private beaches.  If over-the-top attractions are what you are seeking, look no further than this mind-blowingly lavish city-state.

Day Itinerary

This morning after breakfast you will be driven to the financial capital of Abu Dhabi. You start your tour driving past the Emirates Palace and stopping for photographs. There drive through the city’s famous Corniche and stop by to take more astonishing photographs. Visit the Qasar Al Watan Palace which is now open to the general public. Later visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque – one of the most beautiful Mosques in the world.

After lunch at a local restaurant (INCLUDED), you will be taken to the Louvre which is a museum based on art and civilization.

After the tour check in at the hotel.

Rest of the day is at leisure to enjoy your own activities or explore the city on your own.

Medical Insurance:
The U.S. Mission in Dubai & Abu Dhabi is unable to pay your medical bills. Be aware that U.S. Medicare does not apply overseas. Make sure your health insurance plan provides coverage overseas. Most care providers overseas only accept cash payments. You may also be required to pay a deposit before being admitted for treatment. We strongly recommend that you protect your trip with travel insurance.

Banking and Currency
DUBAI CURRENCY

The name of the currency in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates is the dirham (AED or Arab Emirate Dirham – also commonly abbreviated to Dhs or DH). There are 100 fils in a dirham. Notes come in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 dirhams.

Hotels and most stores accept major credit cards.  However, for “street shopping” you will need local currency or U.S. Dollars (UAE only).  The best place to get local currency is at ATMs. It is recommended that you bring along cash in small denominations.

Banking

Mon-Thurs 0830-1230 and 1500-1830, Fri 0830-1200 and 1500-1830.  Most major credit cards are accepted in larger restaurants, hotels, guest houses and the occasional shop in the souks, with Visa and MasterCard being accepted most widely.  Cash can be withdrawn from ATMs in larger towns, although service in smaller towns can be erratic. Most major hotels now have more reliable ATMs.

TAKE NOTE: Traveler’s cheques are accepted in some areas but are not advised, as the exchange can be problematic and it can be difficult to find a bank to be able to cash them, although some of the main tourist hotels offer this facility.

LUGGAGE-3

Each passenger may bring one piece of checked-in luggage (suitcase) max. 44 pounds, and one carry-on not exceeding 18″x10″x8″. We recommend that you do not overpack and that you take a variety of separates with climate and comfort in mind.

Food, Drink and Cuisine Advice

Traveling to Dubai and Abu Dhabi gives you the opportunity to try delicious foods native to the culture.  Here is a list of the Top 10 foodie things to try in UAE.

Climate and Weather

Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the UAE have a very warm climate, and we recommend that you bring comfortable clothing. Certain religious sites require a dress code (specifically, long sleeve shirts and long pants or floor-length skirts). The temperature in January and February is in the mid 60’s; March, April, November, and December is in the 70’s; May and October is in the 80’s, and September is in the low 90’s.

Clothing and Dress Recommendations
Dubai is a very fashionable city, like London, Milan, and New York. Dubai loves dressing up and the city’s residents love showing off their brands and/or their creativity and individual sense of style. When you travel someplace new, whether it’s Sweden, Georgia, Italy, Nepal, or Bangladesh, make the effort to dress to blend in, so that you don’t offend the locals. There will always be other tourists who don’t give two hoots about dressing appropriately, but it is better to be respectful of the culture and their traditions.  See this article on more information.

Electricity and Plug Standards

uae OUTLETSYou need a power plug adapter in the United Arab Emirates, when living in the United States of America.
You also need a voltage converter. Be extra careful with certain appliances because of the difference in frequency. In the United Arab Emirates the power plugs and sockets are of type C, D and G. The standard voltage is 220 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.
