Gladys Lee’s Lasting Impact on Golf, Youth Development, and Community Leadership

by AAGD Staff

For more than four decades, Gladys M. Lee has dedicated her life to growing the game of golf while using the sport as a vehicle for education, leadership development, and personal empowerment. As an LPGA Class A Teaching Professional, youth mentor, coach, recruiter, and nonprofit founder, Lee has touched the lives of thousands of golfers ranging from young beginners to experienced adult players. Her commitment to service and her belief that golf can transform lives have made her one of the most respected advocates for golf development in Texas and beyond.

Based in the Fort Worth-Dallas area of Texas, Lee currently serves as Site Director for LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Fort Worth/Dallas West, Founder and CEO of Roaring Lambs International Junior Golf Academy, a Hurricane Junior Golf Tour Recruiter, and a U.S. Kids Certified Golf Coach. She is also certified through the Positive Coaching Alliance as a Double-Goal Coach, emphasizing both athletic achievement and character development. Her work focuses on helping young people and adults develop golf skills while learning valuable life lessons that extend far beyond the fairways.

Lee’s journey in youth development began long before many of today’s junior golf programs existed. In 1986, she established what was originally known as the Texas International Strokers Junior Golf Association. The organization later evolved into the Roaring Lambs International Junior Golf Academy, a nonprofit program dedicated to serving diverse youth ages five through eighteen. The academy was created with a vision of making golf accessible to children of all racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds while teaching discipline, honesty, commitment, concentration, and respect.

Throughout its history, the Roaring Lambs program has provided year-round instruction for beginning, intermediate, and advanced players. The organization has served more than 2,000 youth golfers and has helped numerous students earn college scholarships through golf. Lee’s curriculum extends beyond swing mechanics and course management. Participants are also exposed to education, health awareness, nutrition, physical fitness, and life-skills development, creating well-rounded student-athletes prepared for success both on and off the golf course.

One of Lee’s greatest accomplishments has been her role in promoting opportunities for girls and women in golf. Through LPGA-USGA Girls Golf, she has helped introduce young women to a game that has historically lacked diversity and female participation. The national LPGA-USGA Girls Golf program has grown into the largest initiative of its kind, impacting more than one million girls worldwide through instruction, mentorship, confidence-building, and leadership development. As a site director, Lee has been part of that movement, helping local girls gain access to coaching, competition, and lifelong friendships through golf.

Her influence also extends into adult golf development. Lee leads LPGA Golf 101 and 102 programs designed specifically for women who are new to the game or seeking to improve their skills. Through patient instruction and encouragement, she has helped many women gain confidence on the golf course and become active participants in the golf community. Her ability to teach players of all ages and skill levels reflects the professionalism that earned her LPGA Class A status, one of the most respected certifications in the golf industry.

Before becoming a full-time golf professional, Lee worked in human resources development, social services, and entertainment production. She served as a Production Coordinator for Dick Clark Productions in California, where she was introduced to golf and the concept that “Golf is More Than a Game.” That philosophy became the foundation of her life’s work. Through persistence, sacrifice, and dedication, she eventually earned her LPGA Class A certification and built a career that combines golf instruction with mentorship and community service.

Her coaching resume is extensive. Lee has served as Head Golf Coach at Estrella Mountain Community College in Arizona, where she guided her team to the NJCAA National Championship. She also coached high school golf teams, worked as a teaching professional at PGA TOUR Superstore, served as a golf instructor for Tarrant County College, and held leadership roles with the African Americans in Golf Association. These experiences allowed her to mentor student-athletes, recruit talent, and create pathways for golfers seeking collegiate opportunities.

Although her exact age is not publicly listed, Lee’s documented involvement in youth development and golf instruction dates back more than 40 years, demonstrating a lifetime commitment to service and leadership. Over the years, she has earned the respect of many influential figures in golf, including LPGA co-founder Marilynn Smith and pioneering golf professional Renee Powell, both of whom have been among her supporters and professional references.

Lee’s personal motto, “Have Clubs Will Travel,” perfectly reflects her willingness to take golf wherever it is needed. Whether introducing children to the game, mentoring aspiring college golfers, helping women learn golf for the first time, or supporting junior golf recruitment efforts, she remains committed to expanding opportunities and growing participation in the sport.

Today, Gladys Lee continues to provide private golf instruction for juniors, adults, and women seeking personalized coaching. Her dedication to excellence, inclusion, and community development has left a lasting mark on golf and on the thousands of lives she has influenced through her teaching and leadership.
