Her-cation #1 BFF Weekend Creates Sisterhood, Celebration, and Championship Golf in Williamsburg

by Dr. Al B. Quarles, Jr.

What began as a vision rooted in fellowship, relaxation, and the love of golf quickly transformed into something far greater during the inaugural Her-cation #1 BFF Weekend held May 14-18 in Williamsburg, VA.

Hosted by Bucka Fogey Sports, the weekend brought together an incredible group of 30 women golfers from multiple states for four unforgettable days filled with golf, laughter, empowerment, and meaningful connection. Designed to create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for women of all skill levels, the event blended competition with camaraderie in a way that exceeded every expectation.

From the opening meet-and-greet to the final championship round, the energy throughout the weekend was unmistakable. Ladies arrived as golfers, but many left as lifelong friends.

The golf portion of the weekend featured rounds at some of Williamsburg’s premier golf destinations, including the historic Golden Horseshoe Golf Club and Colonial Heritage Golf Club. Participants competed in a variety of formats including Big Skinz, team shamble competition, closest-to-the-pin contests, and championship flight play.

The level of talent and competitive spirit displayed throughout the weekend was exceptional.

Leading the way in the championship divisions were:

  • A Flight Champion – Christy McCauley
  • B Flight Champion – Fay Moi
  • Long Drive Champion – Theresa Summers

Additional recognition went to numerous participants who captured Skinz prizes, Closest to the Pin honors, and Team Shamble victories throughout the weekend, including standout performances from Ruby Bond, Rivia Brown, Christy McCauley, and Tanya Wiley.

Beyond the scorecards and trophies, however, the true success of Her-cation #1 could be felt in the fellowship shared among the women. Whether relaxing after rounds, participating in golf conversations, enjoying dinners together, or simply laughing throughout the resort, the event created an atmosphere centered around encouragement, positivity, and authentic connection.

“I would like to personally thank God, my committee, and all of the amazing ladies who helped make Her-cation #1 BFF Weekend such a tremendous success,” said Dr. Alfred B. Quarles II. “This weekend exceeded every expectation. I truly appreciate everyone who trusted the vision, showed up with positive energy, and helped create an atmosphere filled with love, support, and sisterhood.”

The response following the event has already generated excitement for the future. Participants immediately began asking about next year’s dates before the weekend even concluded — a clear indication that Her-cation is filling an important space within the golf community.

At a time when representation, inclusion, and community-building remain essential in the game of golf, Her-cation #1 BFF Weekend demonstrated the power of creating intentional spaces where women golfers can compete, connect, and simply enjoy the game together.

And according to organizers, this is only the beginning.

Plans are already underway for Her-cation #2 in May 2027, with expectations of continued growth, expanded experiences, and even more unforgettable memories.

As the final hugs were exchanged and clubs packed away, one thing became abundantly clear:

Her-cation was never just a golf trip.
