Howard Bankhead’s legacy is defined by the lives he has impacted rather than personal achievements. A 1981 graduate of Alabama State University with a degree in Marketing, he has dedicated decades to community leadership in Huntsville, Alabama, creating opportunities for underserved youth through education, culture, sports, and mentorship. His efforts were recognized with induction into the 19th Annual African American Golfers Hall of Fame in Palm Beach County, Florida, an honor celebrating individuals who have helped expand the game of golf within Black communities.
Although golf was not initially part of his life due to segregation and limited access to the sport, Bankhead later embraced the game after a knee injury ended his tennis pursuits. The nonprofit organization management professional has since used golf as a platform for empowerment, inclusion, and community development, extending his influence far beyond the golf course as Executive Director of the Tennessee Valley Youth Golf Development in Huntsville, AL.
