John Wood is emerging as the top contender to assume the role of Tiger Woods’ permanent caddie in 2024, as the 15-time major champion gears up for another comeback. Based on Tiger Woods’ leisurely strolls in the Bahamas and Florida before Christmas, it seems that we can expect to witness more of the 15-time major champion in 2024 compared to recent years.

Having recently celebrated his 48th birthday, Woods demonstrated his fitness by comfortably walking four rounds at the Hero World Challenge. During the PNC Championship alongside his teenage son Charlie, he alternated between using a cart and walking. It was during this event that Woods announced his intention to play at least once a month starting from February.

The 2024 season for Woods is likely to kick off at Riviera, where he hosts the Genesis Invitational on the PGA Tour. The discussion surrounding his permanent caddie is a hot topic, especially after his longtime caddie, Joe LaCava, received Woods’ blessing to work with Patrick Cantlay.

In the short term, it appears that the role may go to one of Woods’ close friends and confidantes: Rob McNamara, who not only serves as a second set of eyes for Woods’ swing but is also the executive vice president of TGR. Another contender for the position is John Wood, an experienced caddie with over 20 years of experience, having worked with players like Hunter Mahan, Chris Riley, Matt Kuchar, and Woods’ close friend Mark Calcavecchia. Although currently an on-course reporter for NBC Sports‘ golf coverage, Wood could potentially divide his time between this role and working for the hall of fame golfer.

As for Tiger Woods’ plans for 2024, he expressed a desire to play in at least one tournament per month, starting with the Genesis Invitational in February and continuing through major events each subsequent month. Woods, who missed a significant portion of the 2023 season due to injury, is focused on getting himself ready for the challenges ahead.
