Kennie Sims, MBA, PGA—a longtime advocate for equity, inclusion, and growth in the game of golf—has announced his resignation from his role as Senior Director of Impact at the PGA of America REACH Foundation, effective May 15, 2025. His decision follows a period of thoughtful reflection as he prepares to begin a new chapter in his life and career. For many in the golf industry, this marks the close of a meaningful era defined by Sims’ leadership, passion, and dedication to changing lives through golf.

Sims first became a PGA of America Golf Professional in 1998, quickly distinguishing himself as a thoughtful and strategic leader. Over the years, his role evolved, ultimately leading to his leadership position with PGA REACH—the philanthropic arm of the PGA of America. He brought with him an MBA and valuable experience as Vice President of Golf Operations for the Tampa Sports Authority, where he managed three municipal golf courses. His strong educational foundation, combined with his contributions to the golf industry provided an inclusive and impactful approach to program development and community engagement.

Reflecting on his time at PGA REACH, Sims shared:

“It has been a tremendous honor to serve an organization whose mission—to positively impact lives through golf—aligns so closely with my own values.”

His belief in golf as a vehicle for positive change became the centerpiece of his work and legacy.

During his three-year tenure, Sims was instrumental in expanding the Foundation’s signature programs. Through PGA HOPE, he helped support over 35,000 Veterans, using golf as a therapeutic and community-building tool. Under his guidance, PGA WORKS flourished—developing over 90 scholars and 75 fellowships while offering mentorship and professional development opportunities to diverse young professionals entering the golf industry.

One of the signature events Sims helped guide was the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship, where he served as Championship Director for two years. His commitment to ensuring Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), and other Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) had a strong platform in collegiate golf was clear through his strategic direction and hands-on leadership. He also played a key role in awarding over 15,000 scholarships through PGA Jr. League, and helped the launch of the PGA REACH Opportunity Leagues initiative, which has opened doors for youth in underrepresented communities.

In acknowledging those who supported the Foundation’s work, Sims wrote:

“I express my deepest gratitude to our donors, trustees, officers, and the PGA of America Board of Directors. Your vision, generosity, and unwavering support have made this impact possible.”

His message underscores the collaborative nature of his leadership and the shared values that fueled the Foundation’s growth.

Sims also extended his thanks to his colleagues and community partners, adding:

“The relationships and memories we’ve built will always stay with me.”

These words reflect the enduring spirit of teamwork, service, and shared purpose that defined his approach.

As he prepares for what comes next, Sims remains firmly rooted in his mission to make golf more inclusive and accessible:

“I remain committed to driving meaningful impact and continuing the work to make golf a game for all.”

While his next steps have yet to be publicly announced, he plans to take some time to rest and reflect. Those who have worked with Sims know that his influence in the golf world will continue in meaningful and powerful ways.
Kennie Sims is a member of the African American Golfers Association (2019) and the Fayetteville State University Athletic Hall of Fame (2020) and resides in Tampa FL. He has two children, Leslie and Kevin.
