Lloyd J. Duggan Jr., Continues The Pursuit of Perfection

by Debert Cook

AABE Tournament_500Lloyd J. Duggan Jr. was born in Brooklyn, New York, the most populous borough of New York City and the heartbeat of fast-paced urban American life.  But nowadays, the ambitious professional enjoys a more serene lifestyle as a resident in beautiful Middletown, Connecticut.

While in college—and to make ends meet, Duggan worked at the historic Langston Golf Course in Washington, D.C., but he did not play golf then. It was not until he took a job in the marketing department of Yankee Gas (now Eversource Energy) that the sport really attracted his attention.

“I noticed that during the spring and summer, I would be the only one in the office, because all the others were out playing in golf tournaments—It was like, DUH?”

After this realization, it did not take Duggan long to get into the swing of things and get fully involved with the game. Today, the fit 5’9”, 60-year-old gentleman carries a USGA handicap of 21 and he has been a member of the One Putt Golf Tour since 2012.

When he’s not out on the golf course, or playing in corporate tournaments, or in rounds with club members, the married father of three enjoys spending his quiet time writing.  His wife of 35-years, Gerri, does not play golf but she is a huge supporter of her husband’s beloved past time.

Duggan spent his years well while living in Washington, D.C., earning a BBA in Marketing from Howard University and an MBA in Marketing from American University. While working as a marketing consultant, blogger, and entrepreneur, he wisely parlayed his knowledge and experience into a very profitable business venture and, for the last nine years, he has served as President/CEO at his firm GL Market Research. The full-service, Connecticut-based market research and marketing consulting firm helps its clients to make better business decisions while maintaining the highest standards of ethics and integrity.

His home course, Indian Springs G.C. in Middlefield (CT) is a challenging 9-hole, par 36 public golf course, located in the heart of central Connecticut.  It features a great variety of holes with hills, water, incredible views, and impeccable fairways.  The course is nearby his residence and it makes a perfect practice facility for Duggan.

Duggan took lessons with golf professional Kevin Giancola in the late 90’s, and says that it was the benefit of watching his golf swing on actual video that really helped to put things in perspective for him.

“The first video of my swing showed me coming over the top; and I’ve used that ever since to correct my slice—Doesn’t always work though.”

Regarding his golf game:  “It’s like a box of chocolates, says Duggan, who is always in continuous pursuit of perfection. “I never know what score I’m going to get.”

“Trying to get that little white ball to do what I want it to do,” is still my biggest challenge, says Duggan who admires golfer Tiger Woods because, “he never quits.”
