Meet the Berry’s (l-r) 8-year-old Roman, along with his mother Erica Berry and 6-year-old bother Jackson post for a photo op for AAGD. Mom Erica brilliantly holds the Spring 2022 issue of the magazine in her right hand. Unfortunately, father/husband George Berry just missed the op but the entire family enjoyed the API Round 2 at Bay Hill Golf & Lodge in their hometown of Orlando, Fla.
Day 3 at the API
The third round at Bay Hill is like a war of attrition and perseverance. If you snooze you lose. If you take your feet off the gas, you’re gonna get passed. The leaderboard has been changing constantly. The last one to blink might be the one sleeping on the lead tonight. And I’m not sure if that’s a good thing.
Saturday’s third round started off with Kurt Kitayama and Jordan Spieth in the final pairing at -9 & -7 respectfully. At 4:00pm the leaderboard read something like Viktor Hovland -8, Tyrrell Hatton -7, Corey Conners -7, and a list of others at -6, which included McIlroy, Spieth, Thomas, all Major winners in hot pursuit.
Sunday’s finale should be off the charts.
Day 2 at Arnold Palmer Invitation concluded with a very stacked and star studded leaderboard. Kurt Kitayama, from Chico, Ca. finished today’s round with a 68 to go with his 1st round 67 to lead the field at -9. Fan favorite Jordan Spieth is closest pursuer at – 7 and a long list of former winners crowding things near the top. With 43 of the top 50 golfers in the world competing at the API, one of the strongest fields in golf, we all should be in for a survival of the fittest type of finish on Sunday. And if the winds are wrecking havoc like they were today, look out.

FORE HIRE Launches New Opportunity for Women to Pursue Golf Careers

FORE HIRE, a golf industry talent acquisition company, has announced the launch of its “Women Who Want to Work in Golf” program. The program is aimed at former and current college golfers who are interested in pursuing a career in the golf industry. It provides a unique opportunity for education, professional development, career advancement, and direct connection to potential employers. The program is designed to increase awareness of the availability of talented women looking to enter the golf business.
The program’s sessions are scheduled for May 21-23 in Scottsdale, Arizona, in conjunction with the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship. PGA Career Services and PING are presenting partners, and Moon Golf is supporting FORE HIRE in its women’s initiatives. The Women’s Golf Coaches Association also collaborated on the program’s creation.
To be eligible for the program, applicants must have played women’s college golf at any level during their college career and must be seeking full-time employment.
Women of all ages are encouraged to apply by clicking HERE, with the application deadline set for Wednesday, March 22, at 6 p.m. ET. Up to 30 women will be accepted into the first program.
Stacey Solheim Pauwels, PING Executive Vice President, said that when FORE HIRE founder Courtney Trimble approached them to host the first FORE HIRE event, it was an easy decision. PING has a long history of supporting women both on and off the golf course, and Courtney’s vision fits perfectly with their brand values. She further added that PING is excited to highlight the many career paths and opportunities for women interested in working in the golf industry.
The program aims to raise awareness of the many job opportunities available within the industry, increase understanding of the skills necessary to secure specific positions, and provide an opportunity to network and connect to employment opportunities. As participation in golf continues to grow, the demand for industry companies to expand their workforce has also grown. College golfers’ ability to play the game at a high level makes them even more marketable to potential employers, according to PGA Career Services Senior Director Scott Kmiec.
The program will consist of attending the NCAA Women’s Division I Golf Championship, a behind-the-scenes look at PING Headquarters, roundtable networking sessions with key industry professionals, a panel discussion from golf companies and organizations, as well as updated headshots, resume updates, and mock interview sessions. Selected participants will receive a stipend for travel, hotel, meals, and entertainment.

It provides education, professional development, and networking opportunities that can lead to career advancement and employment in the golf industry. The program is well-timed, considering the growing demand for a skilled workforce in the golf industry.
The National City Patrol car was involved in a crash on February 26 while they were pursuing a man that they believed to be in a stolen Golf car, reported FOX 5 San Diego. Police received a call on the morning that a golf car was stolen from a local church.
When officers arrived they found the golf cart, and said they saw someone standing next to it, possibly the thief. That person then ran away and police chased after him.
During the pursuit the patrol car ended up in a collision with another car near Highland Avenue and Division Street. No serious injuries were reported, the golf cart was secured and police did return the golf cart to the church.
Staff Sergeant Charles Eggleston’s journey to fitness is a testament to the power of perseverance and determination. As a United States Army combat veteran and Bronze Star & Purple Heart recipient, Eggleston has undergone over 50 surgeries and spent over three years in the hospital. His long and arduous journey helped him realize that fitness is more than just physical.
Eggleston’s journey began when he gave up a career in computer engineering to enlist in the Army. Despite his mother’s disapproval, he knew that serving his country was his calling. After the tragic events of 9/11, Eggleston was deployed to Iraq, where he suffered severe injuries that left him fighting for his life. Eggleston spent countless hours in recovery, including time at Walter Reed Medical Center, where he endured poor conditions due to black mold and fungus.
Despite the challenges, Eggleston refused to give up. He became an advocate for himself and other veterans and brought the poor conditions at Walter Reed to the attention of then-President George W. Bush, contributing to the “Walter Reed Scandal.” Eggleston’s unwavering spirit and dedication to serving his country did not go unnoticed.
“Hey, this is like a football game. I got tackled, probably got a stinger, and it’ll go away. [Except] It didn’t go away.”—Charles Eggleston
In 2021, Eggleston became the first veteran to be inducted into the Professional Football Hall of Fame Hall of Heroes, a recognition he initially thought was a joke. His inspirational story has touched many, and he credits his love of golf for helping him take back his mental and physical well-being. Eggleston’s passion for golf began when PGA Golfer Jim Estes took him on a golf outing with the SMGA.
Initially resistant, Eggleston agreed to play after a friendly wager. He fell in love with the game on his first drive, and the mental challenge that golf provided was what he needed to take back control of his life. Eggleston believes that fitness and mental health are connected, and his love of golf has helped him regain both. Eggleston said, “All of us have a different walk. That’s why you have to wrap your hands around some type of friendship and some type of fitness to succeed.”
Eggleston’s journey is a reminder that fitness is more than just physical. It requires a dedication to mental well-being and a refusal to give up, even in the face of challenges. His unwavering spirit and dedication to serving his country are an inspiration to us all.
