Call it what you may—a disaster waiting to happen or the chance for a former world number one golfer to redeem himself. Nevertheless, the odds for Tiger Woods to win the Masters in April 2018, according to Las Vegas SuperBook is 50-1.
It’s been more than eight months since Tiger last competed. The soon to be 42-year old athlete (December 30) underween a fourth back surgery this year and, perhaps his luck on the course will change, he is planning to compete in the Hero World Challenge on Nov. 30-Dec. 3 in the Bahamas.
The unofficial 18-man golf event benefits Woods’ foundation. So, will he be ready to strut a fifth green jacket? Some are hedging their bets and placing him at 20-1 odds to win any of golf’s four major championships during 2018.
A super great 6-week learning session ended on a strong high note, Saturday, November 18, when participants in the LPGA Golf 101 and LPGA-USGA Girls graduated from the session, giving thanks with grateful hearts,” says Coach Gladys Lee who administered the effort. LPGA Golf 101 is an Intro to Golf Program—conducted by Women for Women.
The program follows the overall student-centered LPGA Integrated Performance System to guide participants through a comprehensive, 6-module, “Welcome to Golf” program for new, or relatively new, female golfers.
Through the program, golfers take first steps in learning to play and enjoy the game of golf.
LPGA*USGA Girls Golf (Girls Golf) is the only national junior golf program that specializes in providing girl-friendly environments for juniors to learn the game of golf. We’re the experts in making the game of golf fun, and we teach more than just stance and swing; we teach girls valuable life skills like confidence and perseverance.
“The graduation was held in the Ladies 19th Hole and Grill,” said Coach Lee, “and the course program utilized the putting green, pitching area, driving range and concluded on the golf course.”
After the holidays, Coach Lee is excited about starting with a new group of women, helping them learn the game and sharpen their skills.

A PICTURE PERFECT EVENT
Everything was picture perfect as eight gleaming graduates received special, personalized certificates for their achievement. Also among the celebrants was junior golfer E. Leader, who was recognized for 15 hours of dedicated volunteering throughout the six weeks.
Other special prizes were awarded to team winners for a 4-hole scramble, team putts, and team longest drive. Smiles abounded all around during the event and Coach Lee wished everyone a “Happy Thanksgiving.”
THE GOLF CLUB OF DALLAS
Having recently relocated the program, Coach Lee shared the details with her extensive golf network, via email, several weeks ago. “We are no longer at Prairie Lake’s Golf Course in Grand Prairie, Texas. We are now at The Golf Club of Dallas, formally Oak Cliff Country Club.”
Philip Bleakney, Head Golf Professional at The Golf Club of Dallas has welcomed both LPGA Golf 101, LPGA-USGA Girls Golf and WSGA Programs.” Certainly, the move is working in favor of Coach Lee’s youth organization, as participation is engaging more individuals at the new address, 2200 W. Redbird Land, Dallas, TX 75232.
Bleakney has a long history of professional success in the industry. He has served as Guest Host of “Out of Bounds” radio show (Station 105.3) on several occasions and as tournament coordinator and committee member of the Dallas Can Academy Golf. In 2013 he was selected as Golf Professional of the Year when NTPGA Section and Chapters recognized its members and others in the golf community through the NTPGA Awards.
The Golf Club of Dallas is a fantastic location for the LPGA Golf 101, LPGA-USGA Girls Golf activity. It has a tremendous history. What is now the Byron Nelson Classic was held there in the 1950s. Golfing champions like Sam Snead, Julius Boros and Bert Yancey collected trophies there. With legends like this having played the course, the youth whom Coach Lee was introducing to the game must have felt really special to have the opportunity to walk in these footsteps.

Golf Set-up for Success: Learn to set up consistently based on the natural movements of your body to make your best golf swing (Kindle Edition)
“I wasn’t born with a golf club in my hand, but I was reborn with one.” Charles Calhoun grew up in Summerlee, West Virginia, as a superior high school football athlete, but he was bitten with the golf bug in his early 20s.
Since then, he has been a researcher and teacher of the game of golf. He is based in Orlando, Florida, and has more than 20 years playing golf professionally, teaching and coaching, and authoring golf articles.
A former contestant on the original Golf Channel “The Big Break” reality show, Charles is an in-depth researcher of the golf swing, possessing a fine-tuned knowledge of the body and the swing.
His philosophies are truly revolutionary and unique, because they are based on the natural movements of the body. Once you understand how the joints and muscles work to produce a swing, it’s much easier to create a consistent, repeatable swing that will lower your score.
Charles’ favorite quote is from Einstein: “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.”

Some of the world’s best golf courses are in the United States, proving that its inhabitants’ interest in sports goes beyond Nascar, ball games, and UFC. But let us not forget that golf is a sport born overseas – in Scotland, to be exact, which is (no surprise there) the location of the golf course considered to be the best in the world. The US has many great golf courses, of course, ready to cater to any player that might visit them, lest not forget about the golf courses outside it – let us take a look at them today, for a change.
Taboo Muskoka Golf Course, Ontario, Canada
A constant entry to all Canada’s best golf courses lists, voted to make it on the list of Canada’s top golf courses year after year. Located in Gravenhurst, Ontario, Canada, it has a scenic location and great lodging, with most visitors praising the quality of the services and the friendly nature of the personnel.
The Taboo Muskoka Golf Course has 300 acres of terrain surrounded by tall white pines and matured red oaks, giving the course a secluded look and feel. Each hole is located at a 15 minute tee time from the others, making players feel like they are playing a private course. The course is designed by Florida-based golf architect Ron Garl, whose design philosophy is “making golf courses enjoyable, traditional, challenging, and memorable”. He has surely done a great job with Taboo Muskoka Golf Course.
Royal County Down Golf Club, Newcastle, Northern Ireland
The Royal County Down Golf Club occupies a respectable place among the top 10 golf courses in the world, this is probably the reason why it has been home to so many major golf events, like the British Amateur, the Walker Cup, the Irish Open (three times) and the Curtis Cup. Initially designed by Old Tom Morris, many hands have contributed to the excellence of the course over the years – but nature’s work in turning its surroundings into a remarkable scenery is perhaps the most appreciated.
Last year, the Royal County Down Golf Club was chosen the best of the world’s top 100 golf courses, a list compiled by Golf Digest Magazine.
The Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland
The Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland is a piece of golf history itself, given that it has been a place where golf has been played for six centuries. It is one of the venues that have shaped the way modern-day golf courses look like – most other golf courses in the world either reach out to it for inspiration or refute it. Its layout is brilliant and unique, and strongly weather-dependent, making it a course that has to be played at least once by the dedicated golfer.
History meets excellence in the case of the Old Course – it has hosted the Open Championship a record 29 times over the centuries, including as recently as in 2015.
(November 7, 2017) BELEK, Turkey – It’s a familiar cry that took on new life when Tiger Woods discussed it in a recent podcast.
“We need to do something about the golf ball,” Woods said. “I think it goes too far.”
The modern ball and its distance gains have been debated ad nauseam by Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and the late Arnold Palmer, to name just a few of the prominent critics who contend that the ball needs to be rolled back.
Woods has not been as vocal, but he mentioned it in his most recent book, “The 1997 Masters: My Story,” and again last week on “Holding Court with Geno Auriemma,” a podcast hosted by the legendary Connecticut women’s basketball coach.
But Woods, who intends to return to competition next month after undergoing a fourth back surgery in April, hasn’t been inside the ropes since early February. His criticism runs counter to the thoughts of many of the players who still make their living with the modern solid-core, multi-layered ball.
“I think it’s a terrible idea,” Austrian Bernd Wiesberger, a European Tour Policy Board member, said at the recent Turkish Airlines Open. “Why would we limit us with where technology has brought us? The game has evolved; so has the golf ball.”
If the ball were to go any farther, Wiesberger said, then courses would adapt and add length, which is exactly what has happened in the past two decades.
And that is the crux of the argument for the back-to-the-future crowd: 8,000-yard courses and the corresponding rising cost of maintenance.
In 1997, Woods’ first full year on the PGA Tour, only John Daly averaged more than 300 yards on measured drives, at 302.0. Woods rated a distant second, at 294.8, with the next-closest player at 287.5.
Ten years later, 18 players eclipsed 300 yards, with Bubba Watson leading the way at 315.2.
During the 2017 season, Rory McIlroy led at 317.2, but 43 players – nearly a fourth of the Tour – averaged 300-plus yards.
Gains in recent years on the European Tour, which often competes in cooler weather, have been similar although not quite as robust.

Pro-Duffers Day was celebrated in Orlando, Fla., Saturday, November 4, 2017. This event was previously scheduled for September but was postponed due to Hurricane Maria, which gave the city a pretty good wallop.
Per Norris Horton, President of the Orlando Pro-Duffers organization, Pro-Duffers “Junior Golf Day is a longstanding tradition which celebrates the Founders of the National Pro-Duffers organization and also provides an opportunity for youngsters in selected cities who have not yet been exposed to the game of golf the opportunity to get a beginning golf lesson courtesy of their local Pro-Duffers organization.”
“Our commitment is to junior golf. We are here to start an initiation of introducing new students to golf today. This is to encourage young minorities to get involved in golf and that is one of our objectives—to get them involved and follow them through and give them support, not only physically, but financially also, because we realize that a lot of minority golfers do not have the support,” says Pro-Duffers Orlando President Norris Horton says.
The Pro-Duffers Orlando group gives area golfers the opportunity to play organized golf twice weekly at first class golf courses in the Orlando and greater Orlando areas. Additionally, two outings are held by the national Pro-Duffers Organization at various golf venues in the United States. Tee-Lo Junior Golf hosted “Pro Duffers-Day” at its newly opened facility for the Pro-Duffers Orlando organization. Tee-Lo Junior Golf is the Charity organization of choice for Pro-Duffers in the Orlando area, one of 14 Pro-Duffers chapters in the United States.
Robert Biggers is the Director of Tee-Lo Golf and is an active member of the Orlando Pro-Duffers group. Pro-Duffers Orlando was organized in 2008 and was sanctioned as a chapter in good standing with the national Pro Duffers organization in 2009. Biggers held the class for beginning golfers and provided lessons on etiquette and safety. The new facility consists of 3-holes, 2 tee boxes, a putting green, artificial grass, and a trailer that will be completely renovated as a clubhouse. Over $150,000 was donated by the Wadsworth Foundation that was used to build the training facility. “Over the next five years, I see us as being a place where kids who don’t have golf teams, or in schools or churches will have a chance to come and train.” Biggers also hopes the facility will become a model for other organizations as to how to successfully build a golf training facility.

This year’s event was held at the new Tee-Lo Golf Training Facility on Curry Ford Road in East Orlando. Tee-Lo Golf has been in operation for 18 years and offers juniors, ages 7-17, the opportunity to learn the game of golf without cost, receive quality instruction from the Rick McCord Golf Academy, and provides life lessons which will carry its students well beyond their youth.
The new Tee-Lo facility is a first class junior Golf teaching venue built on land donated by The New Beginnings Church at 8287 Curry Ford Rd. Orlando, Florida. Support to Tee-Lo Golf to build its facility was provided through the Wadsworth Foundation, organizations like Pro Duffers Orlando and other local contributors.
The purpose of the National Pro Duffers organization is to promote and encourage a greater interest by its chapters, members and the public in the game of golf and related social, civic, and charitable activities. Pro Duffers Orlando’s effort in helping to advance the mission of the National organization is realized through its partnership with Tee-Lo Golf.
