Established in 1944, Knickerbocker Golf Club is one of the oldest African American golf clubs still in existence. Based in New Haven, CT, on December 15, 2022 club members elected their first-ever female Vice President, Patricia Newton-Foster.

Patricia, a New Haven resident has been an active participant and Knickerbocker member for four years. In her new role, the beginner golfer has the advantage of acclimating other newbies to the game and recalls how she first got involved, “My cousin, Alfred Dixon, who lives in Southern Pines North Carolina, introduced me to the game about 10 years ago when Tiger Woods was playing in a tournament.” Since then, Patricia has been smitten by the game.

“Becoming the first woman Vice President will enable me to work closely with the members and the President to keep growing the membership,” says Patricia of her historic role. “It’s an amazing feeling to be the first to accomplish this, setting the stage for other women to follow.”
