The 2024 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida January 23rd through 26th was a huge gathering for the golf industry with well over 1,100 exhibitors showcasing an array of products. Over 31,000 people attended from 89 countries and all 50 states. From the latest golf game improvement gadgets to golf carts and golf club brand manufacturers as well as new and established golf apparel companies were well represented. There was something at the Show for every attendee to explore.
It was not just a look, see, feel, and touch exposition. Putting greens to try out the latest putters, netted hitting bays to try the latest club offerings from Calloway, Cobra, Titleist, Ben Hogan, and other manufacturers were a big hit at the show. In booth demonstrations of swing aids, data analysis and improvement were offered and where very informative whether for the new or experienced golfer.
If you work in the golf industry as a golf course manager, golf course superintendent, landscaper, architect or PGA instructor you had an array of products and services to select from. Being someone who wears a lot of golf apparel I truly enjoyed the many apparel offerings from Ralph Lauren, Footjoy, Puma, Under Armour and new and established brands.
However, the highlight of my apparel manufacturers booth visits was visiting the new African American golf apparel startup Eastside Golf founded by Olajuwon Ajanaku and Earl Cooper a line that offers comfort, functionality with a cutting-edge urban style. These two Morehouse men golf teammates from this HBCU are making strides towards appealing to the younger generation. Their mission is to promote Black golfers in an industry that has historically discriminated based on race. I had the pleasure of chatting with both and admire their ambition and drive.
The seminars and workshops were educational and covered numerous topics. The Diversity Roundtable discussion was put on by Dr. Michael Cooper of the USGA. Many HBCU college team members where attendance as well as African Americans from the golf world. Arthur Johnson who will be inducted into the African American Hall of Fame in May was sitting at my table.
For the golf traveler Scotland, Ireland, the Dominican Republic, and other golfing destinations where on hand to promote golf tourism to their countries. Planning staff were there to provide you with everything you need to plan your golf getaway with family or friends.
If you have the opportunity in 2025 plan to visit the PGA Show. It is a must-be at experience for the golfer in you.
