Randy Newsome Heads to Virginia Senior Amateur Championship

Randy Newsome is gathering up his gear and preparing to compete in the 2020 Virginia State Senior Amateur that is scheduled for August 11-15 at Westwood Country Club in Vienna, VA.  The 58-year-old Haymarket, Va., resident plays at a 1.2 handicap and is hopeful for a good finish. 

“I was exempt from qualifying due to my top 15 ranking in the 2019 VSGA point totals,” says Newsome who has been practicing and participating in other tournaments to prepare himself for the competition.

“I Played a practice round there today.  The course was excellent, and there will be some low scores,” recounted Newsome.

The tournament format is 36 holes of individual stroke play qualifying (18 holes per day); the low 32 players advance to match play This will be Newsome’s fourth time competing in the event.

Established in 1954, Westwood Country Club is located in Northern Virginia and sits on 157 acres. The country club offers its members and their guests a full range of dining and recreational facilities and is conveniently just minutes from Tysons Corner in Vienna.

The focal points of the club are a beautiful 58,000 square foot club house, a newly renovated Gene Bates’ designed premiere championship 18-hole golf course, 10 tennis courts, an Olympic-size swimming pool, fitness center and an updated pool/tennis clubhouse.
