Tiger Tracker: Follow Tiger Woods’ second round at the BMW Championship

What started as a big week for Tiger Woods just got a little more interesting.

Woods, after being named as a captain’s pick by Jim Furyk for the U.S. Ryder Cup team earlier this week, came out on fire Thursday at the BMW Championship. Woods shot an 8-under 62 and is tied for the lead with Rory McIlroy.  With storms expected to hit the area on Friday afternoon, tee times were moved up several hours. Woods will tee off with Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler at 8:06 a.m. ET.

Woods entered the week ranked 25th in the FedExCup standings and needs a strong week to remain inside the top 30 to qualify for the Tour Championship in two weeks, the PGA Tour season’s final event. But Thursday’s hot start put him in a great position to do just that.

Now the question becomes: can he win his first PGA Tour event since 2013? Follow every hole of Tiger’s second round right here to see how he follows up his first-round masterpiece.

HOLE 10: Par 4
Woods starts the back nine with a poor tee shot off to the right into the rough. It bounces off some trees, but forward so he’s not going to be blocked out. Tiger recovers with a 9-iron on the approach and gets it onto the front of the green, now facing a tough two-putt.

HOLE 9: Par 5

This hole is 605 yards and Woods covers about half of that with the driver to the left side of the fairway. Tiger uses a 3-wood for the approach shot and it’s a good one, about 15 yards short of the green. A low pitch lands about 20 feet below the hole, but has some spin to get two feet from the cup. That was beautiful. Woods taps in for birdie and he’s back to even on the day, 8 under for the tournament.

HOLE 8: Par 3
Woods goes with the 7-iron on the 199-yard hole, barely reaching the front of the green. Pin is on the back left, about 45 yards from where his tee shot ended up. His putt finds some great speed, but misses left by about six inches. He taps in for par but that was a great save after a lackluster tee shot. Still +1 on the day, 7 under overall.

HOLE 7: Par 4
Tiger goes with a the 3-wood and knocks it 293 yards, staying on the fairway. About 100 yards from the hole, Woods hits a nice approach shot onto the green, finishing 20 yards short of the hole. Tiger’s putt goes about two feet to the right of the hole and then he taps in for par, but a birdie opportunity squandered. His putting is a bit off today. Stays +1 for the day, 7 under for the tourney.

HOLE 6: Par 4
Tiger once again blasts a driver down the middle of the fairway, this one traveling 281 yards. From 130 yards out, he sticks a low approach to *just* outside 15 feet, but once again the good ‘ol Scotty Cameron putter disappoints, sliding the birdie attempt just outside the right edge. He taps in again for par. Still +1 on the day, 7 under for the tournament.
