Charlie Woods, son of Tiger Woods, one of golf’s most legendary figures with 15 major championships, competed in a local qualifier at Wellington Golf Club in Florida on Thursday, where he shot a 3-over-par 75—an improvement over his 81 last year—but it wasn’t enough to advance. The 16-year-old finished seven strokes behind the cutoff, with only five spots available out of 84 competitors for the next round: the 36-hole final qualifier on June 2 at Emerald Dunes in West Palm Beach.
This is the second straight year Charlie has come up short in local qualifying. Still, his improved performance reflects his development and growing promise. Among more than 10,200 U.S. Open entrants, his name continues to draw interest for both legacy and potential. His father Tiger, holder of three U.S. Open titles, is still sidelined as he recovers from a torn Achilles tendon.
