Willie Simmons Jr. A Sensational Senior

Willie Simmons Jr. is always ready for a challenge and leading a California-based youth golf organization has given him the direct engagement that he needs.  As Founder of the Northern California Junior Golf Scholarship Association, based in Sacramento, Calif., Simmons has proven for over 24 years that the game of golf can be a life-changing sport for youth and adults.

 

Founded July 1990, by Willie L. Simmons, Jr. and his family, the Northern California Minority Junior Golf Scholarship Association, Inc. (NCMJGSA) is a not-for-profit corporation.  In May 1991, the corporation received tax-exempt status under the United States Department of Treasury Internal Revenue Services Section 501 (C)(3) and the organization has continued to help attract  youth and adults to the sport of golf in their area.

The mission of NJGSA is to promote academic education and conduct junior/youth golf training programs for youth residing in the Greater Sacramento Metropolitan Area.

Working together for annual programs, tournaments and fundraisers, Simmons and his lovely wife, Pauline, combine their efforts for hosting hundreds of attendees to their events annually.  The devoted couple also shares 62-years of marital bliss together.  

2016-Dec-Willie Simmons Urban Living Article_2The entire family gets involved in the organization’s activities and daughter Loretta is starting to handle many of the lead responsibilities.   Simmons serves on the African American Golfer’s Digest Editorial Advisory Board.  He has four daughters and one son. When Simmons has the time, he likes to get out on the course at lease once a week.

Among the accomplishments of the NJGSA: Awarded United States Golf Association (USGA) Foundation Grants – 1998, 1999, 2000 & 2001. NCMJGSA’s junior golf programs are recognized as one of the top youth & education junior golf training programs funded by the PGA, Northern California Golf Association (NCGA) and USGA Foundations. Conduct year-round and summer (JuneAugust) junior golf training programs, averaging 50 youth per training session
