The Path through the PGA Professional Golf Management Apprentice Program…
Those following the PGA apprentice pathway will need to satisfy all requirements to register as a PGA apprentice, including the PGA Playing Ability Test requirements, the PGM Qualifying Test, the background check and eligible employment at a PGA Recognized Golf Facility. Level 1 courses are available on the PGA Knowledge Center once an individual is registered as a PGA apprentice. Apprentices must maintain eligible employment throughout the PGA PGM Program.
Qualifying Level
- Applicants need to purchase and review the three qualifying level courses: Introduction to the PGM and the Golf Profession, PGA History and Constitution, and Rules of Golf to be eligible to register for the qualifying test at the PGA Partnered test company with local test centers throughout the country.

PGA PGM Level 1
- Applicants pay apprentice fees and Level 1 online courses fees. Pre-seminar activities must be completed prior to attending Level 1 seminars.
- Level 1 Seminar courses include Business Planning, Customer Relations, Introduction to Teaching/Club Performance and Tournament Operations. Golf Car Fleet Management is a self-study course.
- Apprentices attend five days of Level 1 seminars at the PGA Education Center in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
- Apprentices complete a web-based work experience portfolio including activities covering all of the Level 1 courses.
- Apprentices are then eligible to register for Level 1 tests at the PGA partnered test company with local test centers throughout the country.
Level 2
- After passing Level 1 knowledge tests, the apprentice purchases Level 2 online courses access fee. Pre-seminar activities must be completed prior to attending Level 2 seminars.
- Level 2 Seminar courses include Golf Operations, Intermediate Teaching/Club Alteration, and Merchandising and Inventory Management. Turfgrass Management is a self-study course.
- Apprentices attend five days of Level 2 seminars at the PGA Education Center in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Golf Operations,
- Apprentices complete a web-based work experience portfolio including activities covering all of the Level 2 courses.
- Apprentices are then eligible to register for Level 2 tests at the PGA partnered test company with local test centers throughout the country.
Level 3
- After passing Level 2 knowledge tests, the apprentice purchases Level 3 online courses access fee. Pre-seminar activities must be completed prior to attending Level 3 seminars.
- Level 3 Seminar courses include Advanced Teaching/Golf Club Fitting, Player Development/Teaching Business, and Supervising and Delegating. Food and Beverage, Human Resources and Career Enhancement are self-study courses.
- Apprentices attend five days of Level 3 seminars at the PGA Education Center in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
- Apprentices complete a web-based work experience portfolio including activities covering all of the Level 3 courses.
- Apprentices are then eligible to register for Level 3 tests at the PGA partnered test company with local test centers throughout the country. (PAT must be passed prior to being eligible for Level 3 tests).
- Apprentices who have passed all tests, the Player Ability Test and have earned 36 education/work experience credits are elected to PGA Membership.
