RENEE POWELL (PGA/LPGA)
Blog: January-February 2012
Welcome to 2012 everyone!!! It is hard to believe that 2011 went by so quickly.
On a sad note we lost one of our very proud African American PGA members, Dennis Burns. I am sure that many of you knew Dennis who was very active with junior golf. My prayers go out to his family.
Hopefully this will be a bright year in golf with growth in many areas. This time of the year gives me a chance to breathe a little, get caught up on the past and plan for the future. Today in the golf industry one has to be as creative as possible and work hard at growing the game. I am planning to do a number of Get Golf Ready programs. If you type in Get Golf Ready and go to day 1- you will actually see me in action.
“Twice As Good”- a children’s book about, William Powell, my late father, is due out in a couple of weeks. We will soon have information on our website about the book. The book was written by Rich Michelson and illustrated by Eric Velasquez. It is a wonderful inspirational book that shows children that no matter what – they can achieve if they work hard and never give up. You will be able to purchase the book through Clearview. For those who have youth programs, you will definitely want to put a book in the hands of your youth. It is a real story about a man who wanted to make the game of golf fair for everyone, and was my only teacher and coach.
During the third week of January, I am speaking at Temple Israel in Canton as the keynote speaker for their Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Shabbat Service. If anyone is looking for a luncheon or dinner speaker during the 2012 – let me know.
As I look out the window here at the golf course the ground is beautifully covered with snow, so I know I can have a pretty good score with a card and pencil today.
This down time will also give me some extra time to work on my book, so I am trying to take advantage of that.
Wishing all a very healthy and blessed year.
Keep practicing!!!
