Pamela Parker, CEO and Co-Founder of Swing Into Their Dreams Foundation (SITD) along with Lynn Demmons, Eds., Chief Financial Officer, are helping to make college dreams come true for students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). These dynamic women lead the SITD organization in an undaunted effort to make college affordable, and support students who aspire to play golf, while seeking degrees and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, so they can become globally competitive.

Keisha Lancelin, CW69’s Public Affairs Director and host of the weekly community events program, Focus Atlanta got a chance to speak with the women and find out more about their organization and the exciting efforts being undertaken to support HBCU students through their SITD platform.

Parker and Demmons share their own college experiences and discuss how critically important it is for students to have the resources they need when attending college and, this year, the SITD Foundation provided its first scholarship to a Morehouse student to help him continue his education.

“There are 101 HBCS colleges and universities, so there is a strong need to provide community involvement,” said Ms. Parker.

Rising from a historic environment of legal segregation, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) were established prior to 1964 with the intention of offering accredited, high-quality education to African American students across the United States.

“When we think about the first generation of college students, many are attending HBCUs coming from underrepresented groups.  SITD Foundation helps them to overcome some of their financial challenges….We help them to build a legacy for their own families,” said Ms. Demmons.
