SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA, June 14, 2024; The Advocates Pro Golf Association (APGA) Tour returned to TPC Scottsdale. The two-day tournament saw fierce competition with 59 players teeing off, despite the triple digit temperatures. Aaron Beverly’s skill and determination landed him the victory, finishing with a total 10-under par over the course of both rounds. This victory marks a significant milestone for 28-year-old Beverly, who recently earned his PGA Tour Americas card and now celebrates his second APGA Tour win.
Beverly, who turned pro in 2018, is also a Cisco ambassador and a selected member of APGA’s World Wide Technology Player Development Program. Born in Vallejo, CA, he was introduced to golf at age 6v by his dad and golf coach, Ron Beverly, who passed away in 2019 at age 72 due to an illness. Ron Beverly was also a good golf coach for his son and also knew the importance of game strategy and the swing. He also knew how to work with his son Aaron who achieved Big Sky Conference Player of the Year for Sacramento State his junior and senior seasons.
Aaron Beverly attended California State University in Sacramento where he had an outstanding collegiate career for the Hornets. He graduated in 2017 and has gained experience working as an assistant coach for the Sacramento State men’s golf team and an assistant golf professional at Valley Hi Country Club in Elk Grove.
“Winning has put me in a good mindset, with a lot of confidence,” he said a few years ago after winning a tournament in Los Angeles. “I’m hoping that it leads to bigger and better things and more opportunities, to play against good players. The dream is playing on (PGA) Tour. The dream is alive and well – still chasing it.”
At the TPC Scottsdale Tournament Kamaiu Johnson finished just one stroke behind Beverly in the final round. On day one, Ryan Alford emerged as the Round 1 leader, finishing at 5 under-par with Beverly and others following closely behind.
This event also marked the debut for our newly turned professional collegiate players: Everett Whiten (Howard University), Stephen Kibare (Dalton State), Kris Stephens (San Jose State), and Greg Odom (Howard University).
The APGA operates with the mission of bringing greater diversity to the game of golf by hosting and operating professional golf tournaments, player development programs, mentoring programs, and introducing the game to young people. Full results can be found HERE.
