Ocala, Florida March 5, 2025 –The Institute of African American Golf History is excited to announce a celebratory event — featuring an exclusive tribute to Lee Elder’s 50th Anniversary of being the first African American to play in The Masters Tournament.
The Historic African American Golf Celebration will take place at The Christian City of Praise in Augusta, Georgia on Sunday, April 6 at 4 PM— open to the public with complimentary admission. This event will also pay homage to— Pete Brown and Charlie Sifford, who never received an invitation to play in The Masters; Jim Dent and his legacy; the five African Americans who played in The Masters after Lee Elder shattered the color barrier in 1975; and the Augusta African American Caddies.
“We are humbled and thrilled to present a unique commemorative experience showcasing the resilience and triumphs of great legends in golf,” says Ramona Harriet, Founder/CEO of the Institute of African American Golf History. “We aim to bring an explosion of facts and history.” Attendees can expect to hear from a list of esteemed guest speakers including Dr. Lester McCorn, President, Paine College; Dr. Tony Parker, Retired Historian, World Golf Hall of Fame; Renee Powell, Second African American LPGA Tour Member; Alex Pramenko, Partner, VIP Sports Marketing; and Don Rea, President, PGA of America.
“Certainly, this occasion is special to me and has been on my mind for a long time,” commented Arthur Johnson, a presenter of this event. “I hope everyone attending will have a rewarding experience.”
The Institute of African American Golf History is grateful to The Christian City of Praise, Pastor Kenneth Gainous, for being the host site and providing services to assist in making this event a success.
And we are grateful to our emcee for this event, Jay Jefferies, local TV Personality and Chief Meteorologist.
The Christian City of Praise is located at 1510 Halton Road, Augusta, Georgia 30909.
