The real battle this weekend wasn’t at Citizens Bank Park where the Fightin’ Phils were looking for a sweep of the Royals or at Arrowhead Stadium where our beloved Birds were busy making Patrick Mahomes cry again-it was on the greens and fairways right here at The Deer for the 2025 RDGC Senior and Super Senior Club Championship. After a tight first round on Saturday featuring two tight leaderboards in the Senior and Super Senior Divisions respectively, players were again greeted to beautiful clear blue skies and greens running over 11 on the Stimpmeter.
In the Super Senior Division (65 and Over), it was Ray Grier defending his title with a round of 78 after his very solid first round of 72. Ray’s final round included early birdies on the sixth and ninth holes, good for a five shot margin over runner up Craig Pfeifer, whose consistent scores of 78-77 earned second place gross honors. Craig’s final round was highlighted by back to back birdies on the 3rd and 4th holes along with a bird on Hole #17 down the stretch.
Not to be outdone in the Senior Division (Ages 55 to 64), Rob McConathey also made it a repeat as he followed up his first round 74 with a solid 73 to edge his good friend Bob Knox (72-81) by six strokes. “Knoxy” held a two stroke lead entering the final round with McConathey making an opening birdie on the first hole and drawing both into a tie making the turn on Hole #10. McConathey took control of the tournament with an even 36 on his final nine including a birdie on Hole #12.
