John was a Charlotte, NC native and an avid golfer who traveled around with tournaments and golfing buddies. He visited the historic Langston Golf Course nearly every day. A devoted father and Army veteran, he was affectionally known a “Big John,” whose guidance and example shaped generations, believed in perseverance, humility, and treating others with respect. His presence brought comfort, and his stories carried lessons earned through experience. To many, he was not just a father or relative, but a mentor and quiet source of strength.
Those who knew John will remember his gentle spirit, his love for family gatherings, and the way he made people feel seen and valued. He carried himself with dignity and grace, and his life was a testament to resilience and love.

A homegoing service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at D.L. McLaughlin Funeral Services in Washington, DC. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and gratitude for a life well lived.
