The World Golf Hall of Fame has officially opened the nomination process for its Class of 2027, inviting golf fans from around the world to take part in selecting potential inductees for the first time in its history.
The new public nomination period is now active and will remain open through July 31, 2026. The move marks a significant shift in the Hall’s selection process, expanding participation beyond committees and industry representatives to include global golf fans.
According to the Hall of Fame, nominations are being accepted across four categories: male competitors, female competitors, contributors to the game, and historic players or amateurs. Eligible candidates must meet established criteria based on age, career achievements, and impact on the sport.
Among the eligibility requirements, competitors must typically be at least 45 years old or have been retired from active competition for a minimum of three years by the time of induction. Contributors may include individuals who have influenced the game through roles such as instruction, architecture, media, administration, or innovation.
All nominations will be reviewed by a structured selection system. A nominating committee will first evaluate submissions and narrow the field to a group of finalists. From there, a selection committee made up of Hall of Fame members, golf professionals, media representatives, and governing body officials will vote on the final class. Induction requires a supermajority vote for election.
The Class of 2027 induction ceremony is scheduled to take place in St Andrews, Scotland, during the week of The Open Championship, highlighting one of golf’s most historic venues for the celebration of the game’s greatest figures.
Hall officials say the introduction of public nominations is designed to deepen fan engagement and ensure a broader pool of worthy candidates is considered.
With this change, the Hall of Fame continues its mission of honoring individuals whose achievements and contributions have shaped the global history and future of golf.
