The FedEx St. Jude Championship held August 10-13 played a pivotal role on the PGA calendar, signaling the commencement of the FedEx Cup playoffs. The event drew the top 70 golfers from the FedEx Cup standings to TPC Southwind, each vying for a chance to secure a spot in the upcoming BMW Championship by finishing within the top 50.

Leading the FedEx Cup point standings before the tournament was Jon Rahm with 3,320 points, followed closely by Scottie Scheffler (3,146), Rory McIlroy (2,304), Max Homa (2,128), and Wyndham Clark (1,944). Rahm and Scheffler had established a substantial lead, but the dynamics were expected to shift significantly by the end of Sunday.

The stakes were high, with the St. Jude Championship winner set to claim a remarkable 2,000 cup points, potentially altering the FedEx Cup standings dramatically.

Jordan Spieth emerged as the leader after Round 1, with Tom Kim in close pursuit. As the 2023 FedEx Cup St. Jude Championship unfolded, golf enthusiasts and experts eagerly anticipated the evolving leaderboard and the thrilling reactions that the tournament’s opening day had elicited. Lucas Glove won the Championship earning $3,600,000.
