Chase Johnson, born on January 2, 1996, in Barberton, Ohio, has emerged as a rising star in the world of professional golf. Introduced to the game at a remarkably young age by his father, who was a self-taught golfer, put a club in his little son’s hand before he could walk, and he could swing a club before he could talk. His first words were “Da ball” as he pointed at a golf ball. A testament to his early fascination with golf.
In elementary school, when his first-grade class teacher asked what he’d like to be when he grew up. “I said a professional golfer.” His journey began through The First Tee Akron program, shaping his skills and dedication to the sport.
Despite being an avid enthusiast of basketball, snowboarding, hockey, and an ardent follower of Harry Potter and Disney, Johnson’s true passion lies in golf. To this day, Johnson listens to Harry Potter books while he practices golf. Influenced by Tiger Woods, he aspired to become a professional golfer from a young age,
A self-proclaimed “nerd” from a young age while growing up in Barberton, Ohio, just 8 miles from Akron, heard from friends that he should give the APGA tour a shot in 2023 because of its considerable prize money and quality venues, he felt fully prepared, physically and mentally.
Now 27 years old, Johnson has become a notable figure on the APGA (Advocates Professional Golf Association) Tour. Though he faced early challenges with multiple second-place finishes, his perseverance paid off with a breakthrough victory, positioning him as the frontrunner in the season-long race for a $25,000 bonus. His notable achievements include winning the John Shippen National Invitational, earning him $20,000 and an exemption into the PGA TOUR’S Rocket Mortgage Classic. “I really worked hard the last year and a half to fine-tune some things since I lost my Korn Ferry card, and it’s been paying off over and over again,” THE JOHN SHIPPEN offering a purse for the first time in its three-year existence thanks to Detroit Golf Club members.
A graduate of Kent State University with a degree in Organizational Communications, Johnson reflects humility and gratitude, acknowledging the support of his family during challenging times. Throughout the APGA season, he showcased his golf prowess with impressive scores, including multiple rounds of 66 or better.
