Cody Matthews Obituary
December 31, 1988 – December18, 2020

On Friday, December 18, 2020, Cody Matthews suddenly passed away at the age of 31. Cody was born on December 31, 1988, in Fountain Valley, California to Leon Matthews and Lisa Gothier.

Cody had an infectious smile and was known to be selfless, caring, persistent, empathetic, thoughtful, humble, a believer, faithful to God, and a loyal, beloved friend, nephew, cousin, son and brother. On the surface, it was clear Cody had a passion for and excelled at golf, but those that came into contact with Cody realized his true passion was fighting for equality and helping others.

Cody’s pursuit of being a professional golfer was not a selfish dream, but a selfless one: he loved the game, but his sole purpose was to put himself in a position to help others; most importantly, to “take care of [his] mom!”

Cody’s funeral service was held on January 10, 2021. Cody is survived by his father, mother, brothers, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.  Judging by the kind words and memories of Cody that have continued to pour in since his passing, it is clear the world is worse off today than it was the day it lost Cody.

VIRTUAL MEMORIAL SERVICE:
January 10, 1:00pm on Facebook Live via Cody’s Profile (https://www.facebook.com/cody.matthews.501)

Due to COVID-19, attendance was limited to 50 people at Saddleback Chapel (Tustin, Calif.). The overflow crowd was able to view the live FB stream, via Cody’s Profile, from the parking lot.
