Boynton Beach resident and two-time APGA Player of the Year Chase Johnson will return to defend his title at the APGA at Port St. Lucie, taking place May 18 to 20 at PGA Golf Club’s Dye Course. Johnson, who won this event in 2023, leads a strong field of 54 players competing for a $25,000 purse. The winner will take home $7,500 and earn 700 points toward the Cisco Cup standings. This tournament marks the fifth stop of the 2025 Advocates Professional Golf Association (APGA) Tour season and the fourth in the Cisco Cup Series.

The APGA Tour, founded in 2010, is a non-profit organization focused on creating a more inclusive future for golf. It does this by providing competitive opportunities, mentoring, and development for minority golfers. The organization also reaches into local communities through youth engagement and grassroots programs.

Chase Johnson enters the event as a standout performer in 2025. In addition to his Port St. Lucie title defense, he has already won three times this season, including the Cisco APGA Black History Month Classic at TPC Sawgrass. Johnson currently leads both the Cisco Cup and Jeff Dailey points standings and will also compete in the final stage of U.S. Open qualifying on June 2.

Other top contenders include Aaron Beverly, a two-time APGA winner and 2022 Genesis Invitational participant, and Michael Bradham, a seven-time APGA winner and PGA TOUR veteran. Bradham is fresh off a win at the APGA at Magnolia Grove. Marcus Byrd, Luis Gagne, and Jarred Garcia are also in strong form, with consistent top finishes this season.

Also in the field is Kamaiu Johnson, who has five PGA TOUR starts, and Willie Mack III, who has appeared in 10 PGA TOUR events and won 15 times on the APGA Tour. Troy Taylor III, the 2024 APGA Farmers Insurance Fall Series champion, and Andrew Walker, who won the 2024 APGA Ascension Classic, will also compete before heading to U.S. Open qualifying.

Florida will be well represented, with players such as Logan Batiste, Juan Jose Guerra, Joel Garcia Lee, Gabe Lench, Mahindra Lutchman, Brandon Mancheno, Cameron Riley, Joey Stills, Troy Stribling, and Trey Valentine all in the field.

Tournament events begin Sunday, May 18, with practice rounds starting at noon. Competition rounds will be held Monday and Tuesday, beginning at 7:30 a.m. each day. Tee times and live scoring will be available through the APGA Tour’s official platforms.

As part of the tournament week, the APGA will host the APGA Foundation Youth Clinic Orlando on Saturday, May 17, at Callahan Recreation Center. Professionals Cameron Riley and Mahindra Lutchman will lead the clinic, giving golf instruction and mentoring to young participants from the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association. The clinic includes range practice, putting lessons, and prize raffles.

The APGA’s season includes two key performance ranking systems. The Cisco Cup standings measure player success at designated events, with the season’s top performer earning sponsor benefits. The Jeff Dailey Points system tracks consistency across the entire schedule and awards a $25,000 Player of the Year bonus to the top finisher.

By combining elite competition with community engagement, the APGA Tour continues its mission to create new pathways in professional golf for underrepresented players while promoting diversity and access in the game.
