I recently went golf traveling during COVID-19 to Williamsburg, VA. My mission was to check out the Kingsmill Resort. I was on a long-awaited adventure, one that I planned with COVID-19 safety protocols in place, and one that was filled with pleasantries and beauty.
Upon arriving, I found true bliss on the breathtaking grounds and Kingsmill resort had my full attention —body, mind, and soul—and all thoughts of being in a pandemic seemingly disappeared.
Kingsmill is Williamsburg, Virginia’s only AAA Four Diamond Condominium Golf Resort and in a class of its own, overlooking the picturesque James River. The hospitality is that of a five-star experience, where everyone is happy to serve you and very attentive. On the property there are three must-play championship golf courses (one with exclusive access for The Club at Kingsmill members only)
For enjoyment Kingsmill has tons of exciting and fun activities. This family-friendly resort has so much for visitors of all ages to enjoy, both children and adults will find pleasure in the availability for golf, tennis, indoor and outdoor pools, a marina, a lazy river, and other water sport activities on the James River, as well as biking on wooded trails, and more.
Of course, there is excellent dining options with five venues to satisfy your plate: ELEMENTS offers a family-friendly environment and is great for morning breakfast. Eagles 101, located inside the Golf Clubhouse is perfect for enjoying lunch. The James Landing Grille is absolutely the place for seafood lovers with offerings that include a selection of regional and sustainable seafood, such as local oysters on the half shell and grilled local fish. The Mill is a full-service bakery and coffee shop located next to the tennis complex. Currents is where it’s really happening for a quick snack, You can comfortably ‘chill out’ poolside with a beverage, light snacks, and even ice cream novelties at The River Pool!
With the COVID-19 pandemic going on all dining was professionally handled with protocols and restrictions in place. There was limited and distanced seating, and to-go options for the restaurants and all food orders. To limit the number of touch-points, all transactions were limited to credit card or room charges only. This I greatly appreciated during my visit.
At the Kingsmill spa you’ll be greeted with plush robe and slippers and have the choice for spending your leisure time relaxing and rejuvenating yourself. Along with massages, there are services for hair and nails. Hours of operation are Wednesday through Sunday, 9AM-5PM.
History buffs will certainly enjoy exploring nearby historical settlements and landmarks. In knowing that in 1607 was the start of American history, as this is when English settlers first recorded as setting foot on North America to start the colonial site of Jamestown. It was exciting to see a historical display on the resort’s 17th tee of The River course marking the occurrence.
The River Course
The River Course is a 6, 831 yards championship course and was designed by Pete Dye. It has hosted PGA and LPGA tournaments, which just recently hosted the LPGA Pure Silk tournament. The course nestles into the James River at holes 16-18. It’s absolutely beautiful, yet challenging to play.
The Plantation Course
The Plantation Course is a beautiful layout with a nature feel and challenging to play, as well. It was designed by our beloved Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay and is 6,432 yards.
If you need lessons the Kingsmill Golf Academy is on the grounds of the resort and is recognized as one of the top 25 golf schools in America.
Kingsmill Resort makes it easy to book your getaway directly at their website with offers of several vacation packages for a fun, and memorable luxury waterfront escape.
Looking for a great place for a getaway? Kingsmill Resort is definitely the place.
