Los Cabos

By Debert Cook, CMP

Los Cabos is a destination of sun, sand and golf that golf groups, families or individual golfers will find simply grand. The municipality includes the cites of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, and is located in the state of Baja California Sur, at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula. Its tourist Corridor is set between the two sister cities and upon arriving into Los Cabos International Airport you’ll find a variety of accommodations within its 20 mile strip of hotels and resorts.

The destination is accessible by air from most major cities in the United States and Mexico. For visitors arriving by air, Mexico has instituted a $15 visitor the fee, which covers visits of more than 72 hours and up to 30 days. It is usually included in the airline-ticket price. From Los Angeles flying time is approximately 2 hours and from New York you can count on 7 hours 45 minutes. The unit of exchange is the peso.

Sheraton De Cortez Pool

Sheraton Hacienda del Mar

The Sheraton Hacienda del Mar is a prefect choice for lodging if you’re looking for a quiet and well-run resort. It’s quiet, relaxing and noted for its cobblestone lanes, winding paths, quaint Placitas, warm terracotta motifs and attentive staff. Relaxing water fountains, four restaurants, bars and shops onsite capture the unique feel and “taste” of Old Mexico that you will long remember. Meal options consist of elaborate buffets, casual poolside fares, candlelit gourmet or an intimate dinner on your private hotel room balcony. I recommend having dinner at the Pitahayas restaurant. It’s the only 5 Diamond restaurant in Los Cabos.

And, you’ll definitely want to discover their Cactus Spa–a tranquil sanctuary to rejuvenate your body from head-to-toe. Skilled technicians guide healing hands guide across your body for massage, facials and numerous special treatments. 11 Mexican-styled treatment rooms offer excellent body wraps plus beach/pool, in-room and couple’s services. Guests may also enjoy the sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and hot and cold plunges; either before or after treatments.

There are five championship level golf courses in Los Cabos and two of them surround the Sheraton.

Westin Exterior

Los Cabos

If your soul is searching for sensual discovery, you’ll find it at the Westin Resort & Spa which has the look and feel of being carved right out of a mountain. The breathtaking views, flamboyant venue colors and cliffside dining will awaken your senses to the vibrancy of being in Mexico.

The Pool Westin Los Cabos

Westin Los Cabos

A lovely garden area surrounds a free-form pool with infinity edge, swim-up bar, and 12-person spa tub; a children’s pool is set away from other pools for youth to enjoy. Take advantage of a 50 minute Swedish massage at the beach and the “Westin Unwind,” where you can have an art lesson with local artisans and create a Mexican masterpiece to take home with you! Mine was a hand-painted, multicolored iguana with green and orange spots and red eyes that seem to follow you around.

Westin

243 guest rooms are each decorated in warm earth tones and features the Westin heavenly Bed and Westin Heavenly Bath. The five distinctive restaurants on property feature cuisine from casual to fine dining. I propose you try lunch poolside at La Playa Restaurant for a casual flare or, you can “make your own lunch” – A casual tapas cooking lesson with the chef while sipping Mexican beer. Arrecifes Restaurant (reservations and semi-formal dress) is an option not to be missed for those who enjoy fine dining.

Great food with soul that sets the standard for cuisine in Los Cabos and a cliff-side location that comes with a beautiful sunset. Finish your evening with a Tequila tasting at La Cascada Bar Fire Pit and know that Los Cabos has a whole lot for golfers to enjoy
