Sistas on the Green Returns to Denver for a Luxurious Weekend of Golf and Sisterhood

by AAGD Staff

Sistas on the Green is returning to Denver, Colorado this summer, offering a unique golf retreat created especially for women of color. Scheduled from July 10 to 13, this second annual event invites attendees to unwind, play golf, build lasting friendships, and enjoy a luxurious experience tailored just for them. Behind this empowering gathering is Coco Stixs, a Denver-based, family-run organization founded by Crystal Adams.

Last year, the inaugural Sistas on the Green event debuted in Denver, sparked by Crystal’s own experiences in the sport. “For years, I searched for a destination golf event where women of color would feel welcome,” Crystal reflects. “I realized that there was a gap in the market. I couldn’t be the only one looking for this kind of experience. So I thought, why not create it myself?”

Crystal’s background in managing professional and athletic events gave her the tools to bring this vision to life. She imagined a space where women could be themselves while enjoying everything golf has to offer—beautiful courses, luxury accommodations, and a strong sense of community. That dream became reality with Coco Stixs. Today, the organization is run with love and support from family and friends. Crystal’s daughter-in-law Donna Hobley Adams plays a major role, and the youngest team member, nearly two-year-old Noya, is affectionately referred to as the CEO. “It’s a running joke,” says Crystal, “but introducing Noya at venues reminds people why we’re doing this. I want her to grow up in a world where she doesn’t feel like the only woman of color on the golf course.”

The weekend is designed for both seasoned golfers and newcomers. It begins with airport pickup and check-in at the Art Hotel in downtown Denver. On Thursday night, attendees gather for a vibrant welcome reception featuring delicious food, drinks, and lively conversation. This sets the tone for the days ahead, filled with laughter and new connections.

Friday morning begins with golf. Those new to the sport can participate in a 90-minute group lesson through the Butterfly Golf Initiative, which builds confidence and foundational skills. Experienced players will head straight to the course. That evening, the group breaks into small parties for the SOTG dine-around, a culinary tour through some of Denver’s finest Black-owned restaurants.

Saturday’s golf outing takes place at Arrowhead Golf Club, one of the most scenic and celebrated public courses in the country. Nestled among red rock formations and designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., the par-70 course provides stunning views and a challenging round. For those seeking relaxation, Saturday also offers the chance to unwind with spa services or take in the local culture at Denver’s Black Arts Festival.

Saturday night features the Royal-Tee Gala send-off dinner. It’s an opportunity to reflect, celebrate, and hear from a special guest speaker. “Last year, this night brought so many of us to tears,” says Crystal. “To be seen, to be understood, to laugh and share our stories—it was healing. And that’s what this event is about.”

Sunday morning closes the retreat with a final breakfast on the hotel’s patio before guests are driven to the airport.

Sistas on the Green is more than a weekend getaway. It’s a space for women of color to experience golf in a way that reflects their identity and sense of belonging. Crystal and her team are committed to growing the event and encouraging more women to step onto the green.

“There’s still time to register,” Crystal reminds. “If you’ve been waiting for the right moment, this is it. Join us and see what happens when joy, golf, and sisterhood come together.”
