17-year-old Amari Avery is preparing for yet another opportunity to shine and show off her golfing talents. The invitee to the 2021 Augusta National Women’s Amateur is perhaps nothing more than elated to be participating.

Golf fans will watch Avery, along with 82 others women at the 54-hole event which, last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was canceled. Arranged for staging at two venues, the tournament’s first two rounds will be held on March 31 and April 1 at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.

The cut will happen for the top 30 golfers after two rounds. Then, all 82 players in the field will participate in an official practice round at Augusta National Golf Club on Friday, April 2. The final round will then be staged on Saturday, April 3, at Augusta National Golf Club.

Along with her captivating smile, Amari has big plans to show off the custom-made Jordan golf shoe that she’ll be wearing at this week’s Augusta National Women’s Amateur. And, there’s something special about these shoes. Inside is a tribute to her favorite golfer Tiger Woods.

During her rounds at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur Avery will be inspired by every step she takes in her pair of Jordan golf shoes, because, inside is a custom Tiger Woods tribute: a list of his five Masters wins and a picture of his signature fist-pumping gesture.

Hailing from Riverside, Calif., Avery gained recognition early in her golfing career. In 2013, a Netflix documentary “The Short Game,” showcased her as one of the eight junior golfers who was quickly rising in the game. The feature lead to Avery being given the moniker “Tigress” by her father, Andre. The doting dad was eager to model his daughter’s career after Tiger Woods.

Winning the California Women’s Amateur in 2019, and she is preparing to compete in collegiate golf at USC in the fall of 2022.

“It’s definitely going to be slightly overwhelming,” Avery said when asked about playing at Augusta National in New York Times article by Brendan Porath earlier this week. “But I think that me just being there could be inspiring for girls like me. I’m going to be out there to play for myself and just show people that people like me can be out there, we can be at that high level and play.”

Golf Channel will have live reports and highlights during the first two days. The top 30 golfers will advance to the final round. There will be no ties. In the event there’s a playoff to determine the final spots in the top 30, that playoff on Thursday will be streamed live on ANWAgolf.com as well as the tournament’s official Twitter, Facebook and YouTube accounts.
