The Top Flight Golfers Association is a traveling golf organization that brings together golfers from Orlando and other locations for an annual week of golf, friendship, mentorship and cultural exploration. Led by president James Seay, the group combines a passion for golf with a commitment to supporting African American businesses and building lasting relationships.

Each year, approximately 25 to 35 members gather during the third week of June for a five-day trip running Monday through Friday. Although based in Orlando, the association welcomes golfers from different communities, creating opportunities for networking, sharing experiences and developing friendships through their mutual love of the game.

Membership traditionally grows through personal invitations and word-of-mouth referrals, reflecting the group’s emphasis on trust, camaraderie and shared values. Wives, friends and guests are also invited to participate, making the annual outing a social experience that extends beyond the golf course.

Golf, History and Community

The association’s annual itinerary includes golf, an annual meeting, a social banquet, a hospitality suite and visits to local attractions. This combination allows members to enjoy the game while learning about the history and culture of each destination.

In 2026, the group traveled to Montgomery, Alabama, where members visited the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, which commemorates victims of racial terror lynchings in the United States. The visit provided an opportunity for reflection and historical learning, adding a meaningful educational component to the golf trip.

The Montgomery experience illustrated the association’s interest in exploring destinations beyond their golf courses and appreciating the stories that have shaped local communities.

Supporting African American-owned businesses is another important part of the group’s mission. When arranging travel and related activities, members seek opportunities to patronize Black-owned businesses, helping support entrepreneurs and contribute to local economic development.

Mentorship and Camaraderie

For the Top Flight Golfers Association, golf is more than a recreational activity. It provides a setting for mentorship, networking and the exchange of ideas among members with different backgrounds and experiences.

Time spent together on the course, at the hospitality suite and during social gatherings creates opportunities to strengthen personal connections and share professional knowledge. The participation of wives and friends further enriches the group’s sense of community.

Under Seay’s leadership, the association continues to emphasize fellowship and the importance of maintaining relationships beyond the annual gathering.

Hilton Head Awaits in 2027

The association’s next annual trip is scheduled for the third week of June 2027, when members will travel to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Known for its golf courses and coastal setting, Hilton Head promises another opportunity to combine golf, relaxation, sightseeing and fellowship.

As the group prepares for its next destination, its traditions remain firmly established: enjoy the game, explore new communities, support African American businesses and strengthen relationships.

For the Top Flight Golfers Association, the greatest rewards are not measured solely by scores. They are found in the friendships developed, knowledge shared, businesses supported and memories created along the way.
