On Tuesday, August 3, 2021, United Black Golfers Association (UBGA) hosted its Seventh Annual Golf Classic at Harbor Links Golf Championship Course in Port Washington, NY. The sold-out event benefitted their UBGA Scholarship Awards Program and brought together golfers from across the region.
Recognized at the program was Debert Cook, Publisher of the African American Golfer’s Digest, who was presented with an Honorary Lifetime Membership to the organization.
“I am deeply grateful for this honor and I am thrilled at being a lifetime member of the United Black Golfers Association,” said Ms. Cook from her summer home in Ghana, West Africa, being unable to personally attend the event due to the COVID-19 travel situation. A video acceptance speech was played with her kind remarks.
“UBGA president Vernel Bennett and the UBGA Board of Directors are continuing to do an outstanding job in bringing golfers together for camaraderie and competition and an amazing job in raising scholarship funds to benefit college students,” said Ms. Cook.
The UBGA tournament is a popular annual outing and included a BBQ lunch, cocktail hour, awards, and dinner. Prizes were also awarded to winners of the golf tournament and on-course games.
The United Black Golfers Association, Inc. is a Laurelton Queens-based Association, that was formed on March 3, 2014, as a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit corporation. From 2016-2020 UBGA has distributed 36 scholarships to High School Seniors, with a total disbursement of $24,800.00 from 2016 – 2020. For more information about UBGA visit https://ubga.org/
